๐จ IMPORTANT UPDATE: Student Transfer Rules Tightened in Australia ๐ฆ๐บ
From 2 October 2026, international students looking to change their education provider may face a longer transfer requirement.
๐ Whatโs changing?
๐น Until 30 June 2027, students will generally need to complete at least 12 months of their principal/main course before transferring to another education provider.
๐ Previously, the requirement was generally 6 months.
๐
From 1 July 2027, the requirement is expected to return to 6 months.
โ ๏ธ Important for students:
If you started your course between 6 and 12 months ago, you may now need to wait until you complete the 12-month period before transferring.
Early transfer may still be possible in certain circumstances, including where:
โ
Your current provider agrees to release you
โ
Your provider or course is no longer registered
โ
You have written support from your government sponsor
๐ข Students and education agents should review these changes carefully before making any transfer decisions.
