New changes in subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa (485)
*GOOD BUT CONFUSING NEWS*

The Department announced that there would be a second temporary graduate visa available for those who 'graduated' from a regional education institution.
This is very good news but there is still some clarification needed on whether the whole course has to be carried out in that regional area.

However, the Department has clarified that secondary visa holders of a 485 visa can continue to become a primary applicant for a 485 visa subsequently. There is NO change in that regard.

How can you as a SCV holder become an Australian citizen?
It depends on your arrival time in Australia.
If you resided in Australia on a SCV for more than 12 months in the 2 years immediately before 26 February 2001, you can apply for citizenship directly without going through a PR pathway.

If you arrived after 26 Feb 2001 and before 19 Feb 2016, then you can apply for a permanent resident visa provided you meet other criteria for the visa.

Victorian government updates on state nomination (subclass 491 and 190)

On 5th January 2021 the Victorian government will reopen the state nomination program for those who have resided and worked in Victoria.
As expected, the state has limited occupations in the health, medical research, life sciences, agri-food or digital sectors, which support Victoria's economic recovery or health response.

The full 2020-21 Victorian skilled visa nomination program (subclass 190 and 491) will open on Tuesday 5 January, 2021. Like the interim program, the full program responds to challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, with a focus on Victoria’s health response or economic recovery.

NSW SKILLED WORK REGIONAL (491) NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 1 WEEK ONLY!

The NSW Government will accept nominations for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491) from next Monday (June 15) until Tuesday June 23, 5pm.

To be eligible you must have an occupation on the NSW Stream 1 skills list and have been living and working in that occupation in regional NSW for at least one year.
