The Victorian Justice Leaders AI Forum, convened by the Law Institute of Victora in collaboration with the Victorian Attorney-General, yesterday brought together more than 130 justice sector leaders to identify priority actions on AI, with a focus on improving access to justice, delivering economic benefits to Victoria and maintaining trust in the legal system. Attendees included heads of jurisdiction from state and federal courts, regulators, leaders of law firms, and leaders from government and regulatory authorities.
Participants discussed practical and policy responses to some of the most pressing issues emerging as AI adoption accelerates, including governance, accountability, capability-building, investment, safeguards, responsible use, the implications for legal education and training and opportunities to improve efficiency and justice outcomes for the Victorian community.
The Forum heard from the Honourable Chief Justice Richard Niall of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Honourable Sonya Kilkenny MP, Attorney General for Victoria, about their focus areas and priorities for AI across the sector and the courts.
