Applying for an Australian visa isn’t just ticking boxes on an online form. The way you organise and present your documents can make a huge difference. The clearer and more structured your paperwork is, the smoother it’ll be for the case officer to go through your application.

Here are a few practical tips to keep things on track:

✅ Set up a system – Keep all your visa docs in one spot (folder, cloud, or drive) so nothing goes missing.
✅ Name files properly – e.g., Passport.pdf, IELTS.pdf, BirthCertificate.pdf.
✅ Keep it safe – Use secure storage instead of digging through email chains.
✅ Check expiry dates – Police checks, English tests, skills assessments, and passports all have time limits.
✅ Sort out name differences early – If names vary across documents, back it up with proof (marriage cert, stat dec, etc.).
✅ Use a checklist – Each visa has different requirements, so a tailored list keeps you on track.
✅ Save copies – Always hang on to a full set after you apply. Handy for extensions or future visas.

Tip: Some documents (like police checks or skills assessments) can take ages to come through. Get started early to save yourself stress and avoid delays.

If you’d like a hand, the team at Hammond Migration is here to guide you through the process.

Did you know? As a permanent resident, you do not have an automatic right to return to Australia after traveling overseas once your initial 5-year travel facility expires. Here's what you need to know:

What’s a Travel Facility?
When you're granted your permanent visa, it includes a 5-year travel facility — allowing unlimited travel in and out of Australia during that time.

🔹 After 5 Years – What Now?
Once that period ends, you’ll need a Resident Return Visa (RRV) to re-enter Australia and keep your PR status active.

🔍 RRV Duration Depends on Your Circumstances:
✅ Lived in Australia for 2+ years in the past 5? Likely eligible for a 5-year RRV
✅ Haven’t met the 2-year rule but have strong ties to Australia (family, job, etc.)? May get 12 months
✅ Are a family member of an RRV holder? Possible 12-month RRV
✅ Have a compelling reason for leaving? Could receive a 3-month RRV

📌 Key Takeaways
• PRs must apply for an RRV if re-entering after 5 years
• RRV duration varies based on residence history and ties to Australia
• Always check your VEVO or visa grant letter for travel validity

Stay informed to avoid complications when re-entering Australia.

As an Australian permanent resident, it’s important to know that you do not have an automatic right to return to Australia from overseas. Your ability to re-enter Australia depends on the validity of the travel facility associated with your permanent visa. What is a Travel Facility? When you...
