We are excited to welcome Devika Mukherji, Associate Lawyer to Elit!

Devika comes to us with a strong passion for family law, and interacting closely with clients and colleagues.

We asked Devika to tell us what drew her to a career in law, she said “it offers a meaningful way to be of service while engaging in intellectually stimulating work”.

“I have always been motivated by helping others navigate complex situations and advocating for fair outcomes”.

Devika described why she chose family law in particular: “I was drawn to family law because of its unique intersection of property, trusts, commercial and criminal law. At the same time, family law involves working closely with individuals during significant and often difficult periods in their lives, which adds a meaningful, human dimension to the work.”

Devika prides herself in keeping clients informed throughout their matter, so they understand what’s happening, what their options are, and what to expect next. She aims to be responsive and approachable, with honest and practical advice.

Outside of the law, Devika is a huge foodie who loves exploring new restaurants and trying different cuisines - no doubt has plenty of competition for the biggest foodie at Elit.

In her spare time you’ll find Devika keeping active with pilates, swimming, or keeping warm over a hot mocha on a cold Melbourne day!

Welcome to team Elit, Devika!

Did you know that 40% of house fires in NSW each year are caused by electrical faults and electrical appliances?

That is a fire safety issue, but it can also become an insurance issue if you make a claim.

Commercial and residential insurance comes with responsibility to maintain.

Recently Aggie spoke at the annual Fire Australia Conference and Trade Show, about the legal obligations for fire servicing and maintenance.

Because when a fire happens, servicing history, maintenance records, and what was done (and when) can become important.

Aggie made the key point clear:
=> Having the right fire protection in place isn't enough - ensuring your fire servicing and maintenance and documentation is in place is equally important too.
______
______
Thanks to FPA Australia , Antoni Pisi of Airmaster for expertly moderating the session, and of course to the attendees for a really interactive discussion.
If you're keen to learn more about insurance declinatures and fire related claims - reach out to Aggie and Elit Lawyers.

Can you name one of the most unique skills in law?

One of the most common issues we hear from clients is:

“I don’t understand the legal issue.”

That’s why we focus so much on ensuring you are across every aspect of your case.

Good communication helps make things easy to understand.

Listen as Danielle talks about what she admires most about the best communicators she has worked with in law.

Legal issues can become very complex.

Danielle explains vividly that a lawyer that can communicate well can help clients weigh up their options, and ensure there are no nasty surprises.

Because when you understand what's going on in your case, you can make the important decisions with confidence.

People tend to assume defamation only applies to high profile celebrities.

However, anyone who has spent years building a reputation can be impacted by defamatory material.

It can help to look for the signs of impacts in the real world.

Here are 5 signs defamatory material could be causing reputational harm:
1. Have clients gone quiet or reduced their business?
2. Are board members treating you differently?
3. Has a deal, referral, or opportunity been cancelled or stalled?
4. Has a long-term client stopped returning calls?
5. Have colleagues started treating you differently?

These questions matter because they often reflect where reputational harm is impacting your life from everyday relationships to commercial credibility.

If you are concerned a publication is damaging your reputation, contact defamation experts Elit Lawyers to discuss your options.

Danielle and the insurance team at Elit had an incredible case recently:
=> Defending a elderly couple whose insurance claim for property damage was declined.

Listen to hear how a vulnerable yet strong-willed woman had a feeling something wasn’t quite right, and decided to fight their insurer’s decision.

Don’t you love a story with a good ending?

During the school holidays Elit Lawyers welcomed Lara, a Year 10 student for 3 days work experience - all the way from Queensland.

Like most work experience students Lara showed a proactive approach to being involved, went to client and barrister meetings with Rob and Danielle, sat in on strategy meetings and learned first hand about the law office environment.

Lara, we really enjoyed having you at our office. We are looking forward to keeping in touch and hearing about your progress. We wish you all the very best for your legal studies!

Selecting the right experts for your case can shape the whole direction of a case.

Danielle and Robert put a lot of time into selecting the right experts and building the right legal team around our clients.

Some of the important factors they look for when choosing experts include:

- Clear thinking on the issues that matter like loss calculation and compensation.
- Clients need realistic expert opinions that stand up in court, not overstated figures.
- Good communication so complex points can be explained and easily understood.
- A team player where experts and counsel work as a real extension of the legal team (not just an ad on).

Rob and Danielle are so passionate about ensuring the legal team is the right fit for the client and the specific case:

Because a good team is at the centre making good legal decisions!
