Australian Department of Home Affairs has released the number for the Migration Program of 2021-22 which will have an overall planning level of 160,000 places, consisting of the following streams:

Skill 79,600 places
Family 77,300 places
Special Eligibility 100 places.
Child 3,000 places.

States and Territories have been allocated nominations number for 2021-22 (please check the image)

News for International students

Grants of student visas in all locations lodged outside Australia will start soon, so visa holders will be ready to travel when borders reopen

Free VACs for international students who were unable to complete their studies within their original visa validity due to COVID-19

Current student visa holders studying online outside Australia due to COVID-19 will be have that study counted towards the Australian study requirement for a 485 visa.

Graduates who held a student visa will be eligible to apply for a 485 visa outside Australia, if they are unable to return due to COVID-19

Additional time will be given for applicants to provide English language results where COVID-19 has disrupted test dates availbilty

This is just an announcement by the government, not into the legislation yet, we hope it will be there soon.

Applications open: 491 Nomination NSW Regional

NSW treasury accepting applications for NSW nomination for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

Applications must be received by 5pm Friday, 26 June 2020.

Who can apply?
You can only apply for NSW nomination if you are eligible for this visa subclass AND:

have an occupation on the NSW regional skilled occupation list, and; are currently living in a designated regional area of NSW.

If you do not meet all of these requirements you are not able to apply for NSW nomination. The NSW nomination fee is not refundable.

Parents of Australian citizens and PR holder normally get this condition on their visitor visa:Condition 8558. There has been a lot of question raised about this condition. Here the official position of the department:

Condition 8558 (must not stay in Australia for more than 12 months in any 18 month period)

If you hold a visa with condition 8558 you should depart Australia before the date on which you will have stayed in Australia for more than 12 months in any 18 month period.

If you are unable to depart Australia before this time for reasons beyond your control however, we do not expect you to apply for a further visa unless you are unable to depart before your visa expiry date.

Your โ€˜No Further Stayโ€™ waiver request will therefore be prioritised according to the visa expiry date, and not the date on which you will have stayed in Australia for more than 12 months in any 18 month period.

State and Territory Nominated - Updates
Victoria - open
Applications for Victorian nomination under the Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional visa program opened on 18 November 2019. It is free to lodge a Victorian nomination application.

Western Australia - open
The Timeline of Transitional Arrangements on the Living in Western Australia website give 21 November 2019 as the start date for the Subclass 489 invitations

Tasmania - open
All state nominated applications opened on 16 November 2019 including Subclass 491 Skilled Regional Work visas. Applications will incur a $220 fee including GST.

Queensland - open
The Queensland State Nomination Skilled Program has opened today, 25 November 2019 for the Subclass 491 Skilled Regional Work and Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visas. More details here. * Update BSMQ closed Subclass 190 applications at 26 Nov 2019

South Australia
State nomination applications for the Subclass 491 Skilled Regional Work and Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visas will be open first week in December 2019.

Northern Territory
Applications for Subclass 491 Skilled Regional Work and Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visas will reopen on 9 December 2019. A nomination fee will be applied from that date.

Australian Capital Territory
The ACT is defined as regional for skilled migration purpose from 16 November 2019. While potential applicants can complete the Home Affairs SkillSelect EOI from this date, the Subclass 491 Canberra Matrix can only be submitted from 1 January 2020. Eligibility criteria will be available from 28 November 2019.
