We’re excited to welcome one of our favourite paralegals, Sheila Dixon, back to Miller Sockhill Lawyers after some well-deserved leave! ✈️🧳

Sheila has been valued member of Miller Sockhill Lawyers since 2019, providing dedicated support to our clients and helping to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. Sheila plays an integral role in our Wills & Estates team, and clients frequently note her professionalism and ability to facilitate smooth outcomes, particularly in sensitive areas such as probate and deceased estate administration.

It’s great to have you back, Sheila! We’ve missed you! 💛

Losing capacity without having an Enduring Power of Attorney in place can leave your family trying to manage urgent financial and personal issues without clear legal authority.

An accident or unexpected illness can affect decision-making capacity at any stage of life, and an Enduring Power of Attorney is an important legal document for people of all ages. Having one in place provides peace of mind, ensures your wishes can be respected, and can help prevent delays, stress and uncertainty for your loved ones during an unexpected situation.

Our experienced team can assist with preparing an Enduring Power of Attorney tailored to your circumstances.

AI is changing the legal profession, making research, document drafting and administration faster than ever. But when it comes to legal judgment, strategy, negotiation and understanding the unique circumstances of your matter, there's still no substitute for experienced legal advice.

Using AI-generated material may appear to save money initially, however the consequences can be far more expensive than obtaining legal advice.

Australia’s anti-money laundering (AML) laws have undergone their most significant expansion in almost two decades. For the first time, many solicitors and other professionals involved in property and commercial transactions will be required to comply with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) regime.

As a result, from 1 July our clients may now be asked to provide additional identification documents and information about the source of funds or the purpose of a transaction, even where no property is involved. To learn more about what these changes mean for you and what information you may be asked to provide, read our full article on the new AML/CTF rules and how they may impact your next transaction.

Under the extended AML regime, lawyers providing designated services must undertake customer due diligence before providing certain legal services.

It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy good company, great food, and most importantly, raise funds to help support vital cancer research, prevention programs, and services for Australians affected by cancer.

We're grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a success 💛

For many clients, consenting without admissions may seem like the simplest and least stressful option at the time. However, it can still carry serious consequences for the duration of the order and beyond.

Before consenting without admissions, it is important to carefully consider the conditions of the order, the potential long-term impacts, and obtain legal advice ⚖️

Consenting without admissions means agreeing to a court order, such as a DVO, being made against you, without admitting that the allegations are true.
