The Out of the Shadows Walk raises vital funds for Lifeline, supporting their provision of free crisis support and other mental health services to people in need.

Wills Week 2026 | Life Changes, So Should Your Will

It’s Wills Week 2026 (7-13 September) and the latest research highlights just how many Queenslanders are putting off an important part of their estate planning.

It is estimated that fewer than half of Queenslanders aged 40 to 60 have a Will. Of those without a Will, almost 70% say they intend to make one, they just haven’t got around to it yet.

Making a Will is one of those things that can easily get pushed down the to-do list. But having a valid, up-to-date Will means you have a say in what happens to your assets and can help avoid unnecessary uncertainty and expense for your loved ones.

It’s also important to remember that your Will should change as your life changes.

If you have:

- Bought or sold property
- Married, separated or divorced
- Welcomed a child or grandchild
- Started a new relationship or formed a blended family
- Experienced a significant change in your assets
- Had a change in the people you want to appoint as executors or beneficiaries

These are all good reasons to review your estate planning.

So, if “make a Will” has been sitting on your to-do list for a while, Wills Week is a good time to move it to the top 📝

This week, we’re introducing Rachel Clutterbuck, Senior Associate, and celebrating 10 years since her admission to the legal profession 🎉

Rachel joined Miller Sockhill Lawyers as a law clerk and was admitted on 1 August 2016, with our Principal Lawyer, Anthony Miller, moving her admission.

Rachel works mainly in property and commercial law, assisting clients with property developments, conveyancing, commercial leasing, business transactions, trusts and body corporate matters. Australia’s anti-money laundering (AML) laws have undergone their most significant expansion in almost two decades. For the first time, many solicitors and other professionals involved in property and commercial transactions will be required to comply with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) regime.

As a result, from 1 July our clients may now be asked to provide additional identification documents and information about the source of funds or the purpose of a transaction, even where no property is involved. Under the extended AML regime, lawyers providing designated services must undertake customer due diligence before providing certain legal services.

At Miller Sockhill Lawyers, we're proud to support the incredible work of the Cancer Council Queensland, not only as a partner of the Cancer Council Queensland Will Service, but also by coming together as a team to host our own Biggest Morning Tea.
