Today I received a beautiful surprise from a very thoughtful client. It was such an unexpected and lovely gesture and I was genuinely touched by the thought and kindness behind it.

There’s a lovely sentiment about sunflowers (though I’m not sure whether it’s myth or reality). It’s said that when there’s no sunshine, sunflowers turn towards each other. Whether fact or metaphor, I love the message behind it: sometimes we can be a little bit of light for each other. 🌻

Anyone who knows me outside of the law knows I love all things Marvel.

I loved the new Spider-Man and I’m already counting down to Avengers: Doomsday, so my very thoughtful daughter got me a Marvel Stitch blind box.

By pure luck, I opened it to find Stitch as Doctor Strange, quite possibly my favourite Marvel character. Couldn’t have picked a better one if I tried!

He’s now earned a permanent spot on my desk💙

14 years ago today, on a freezing cold day in Melbourne, I was admitted to practice.

It really is hard to believe how quickly the time has flown.

So many clients, challenges, lessons and memorable moments along the way, and plenty to be grateful for.

And apparently patterned stockings and matching Mary Janes were the order of the day 😄

Willow is definitely making the most of the winter weather... blankets, pillows and plenty of comfy naps on the couch.

My camera roll is full of photos of her in all sorts of funny sleeping positions, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

One of the most helpful things you can do before meeting with a family lawyer is to prepare a simple chronology.

It doesn't need to be long, and it certainly doesn't need to be perfect. If you can't remember exact dates, approximate ones are absolutely fine.

Having a timeline of the important events helps your lawyer understand your situation much more quickly, so you can spend less time trying to remember what happened, and more time talking about what comes next.

If you're not sure where to start, a chronology is a great first step. If you'd like to chat through your situation, feel free to get in touch. I'm always happy to point people in the right direction.

I’ve been adding a few finishing touches to the office, and these blue agate pieces might be my favourite.

I found them at Nurcha and loved both how they look and what they symbolise. Blue agate is often associated with calm, stability and clear communication. If you haven’t been to Nurcha, it’s well worth a visit. Great coffee, delicious food and so many interesting things to look at.

Every detail in the office has been chosen with the hope that clients feel just a little more comfortable when they come to see me. I think these fit in perfectly.

A quick but important reminder about today's national emergency alert test. The alert will sound at 2.00pm AEST (Qld, ACT, NSW, Vic & Tas), 1.30pm in SA and NT, and 12.00pm in WA.

The initiative aims to improve Australia's emergency warning system.

As with many things, though, there will be some who may be adversely affected by the test for a range of reasons, including those who rely on a hidden phone as part of a domestic and family violence safety plan.

During the alert, a siren will sound on all devices, even if they are on silent or do not disturb. You can stop the alert before the test by doing the following:

- turn off your mobile devices, or switch them to aeroplane mode, one hour before the test
- leave devices off for at least one hour following the test (as the alert may stay active for up to an hour)

Worth sharing so people can have the opportunity to prepare if needed.

On Monday 27 July 2026, we’re testing Australia’s new national warning system AusAlert.

During the national test, an alert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia, which includes most mobile phones, some smart watches and some tablets. Apple iPads won’t receive AusAlerts.

The test times across Australia are:

🔸Australian Capital Territory – 2pm AEST
🔸New South Wales – 2pm AEST
🔸Queensland – 2pm AEST
🔸Tasmania – 2pm AEST
🔸Victoria – 2pm AEST
🔸Broken Hill, NSW – 1.30pm ACST
🔸South Australia – 1.30pm ACST
🔸Northern Territory – 1.30pm ACST
🔸Western Australia – 12pm AWST
🔸Christmas Island – 11am CXT.

If your device receives the AusAlert national test, it will vibrate and make a loud siren-like sound for about 10 seconds before stopping, even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.
