482 VISA - NEW PROCESSING PRIORITIES

From 19 September 2026, Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa applications are processed under a new priority framework.

The new system considers factors such as priority occupations, visa stream, onshore/offshore status and secondary applicants.

The changes also apply to applications already lodged and awaiting a decision.

Major Australian visa changes have been announced today - 17 September 2026

These are just some of the key migration announcements made today, with important changes affecting Student Visa and Visitor Visa applicants.

The announced reforms include changes to family members on Student Visas and the introduction of No Further Stay conditions for new Visitor Visas.

⚠️ Please note: These reforms have been announced, but implementation dates and further details are still to be confirmed as the Government releases the new rules.

🇦🇺 In a de facto relationship and thinking about a Partner Visa?

Registering your relationship may be an important step, especially if you’ve been together for less than 12 months.

💍 A registered relationship provides formal recognition and can be valuable evidence for a Partner Visa (820/801 or 309/100).

⏳ In some circumstances, registration may also mean you don’t need to meet the usual 12-month de facto requirement.

📍 Relationship registration is available in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS and ACT, subject to each state or territory’s eligibility requirements.

⚠️ Remember: registration alone is not enough. You still need to show that your relationship is genuine and continuing through financial, household, social and commitment evidence.

💡 Together for less than 12 months? Don’t assume you have to wait.
