MEET BRADLEY ZIEBELL

Navigating a criminal or traffic matter can be unfamiliar and stressful. Clear advice from a lawyer who understands both the law and how the justice system operates in practice can make a real difference.

Brad Zielbell brings that understanding to every matter.

Before joining the McKays Criminal Law team, Brad served with the Queensland Police Service for more than 20 years. From 2009 onwards, his work included investigating criminal offences, gathering and assessing evidence, interviewing witnesses and preparing reports for prosecution.

Brad rose to the rank of Sergeant and was most recently entrusted with the role of Domestic and Family Violence Coordinator within the Mackay Whitsunday Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit. It was a senior position requiring leadership, sound judgement and the ability to manage complex and highly sensitive matters.

Today, Brad draws on that experience to help clients understand their position and the legal options available to them.

Warm, approachable and easy to talk to, Brad helps clients feel comfortable discussing their circumstances and asking questions. He listens without judgement and explains things clearly, understanding that reaching out for legal advice can sometimes be the hardest step.

Brad has a sharp eye for detail and a practical approach to solving problems. He takes the time to understand each matter, carefully works through the evidence and makes sure no important issue is overlooked. His clients can be confident that their matter will be thoroughly prepared and supported by a clear, well-considered strategy.

Above all, Brad understands how significantly legal proceedings can affect a person, their family and their future. He works hard to provide practical guidance, reduce uncertainty and strive for excellent outcomes for his clients.

Brad is an important member of what is now the largest criminal law team in regional Queensland. Together, the team brings significant experience across criminal, traffic and domestic violence matters.

R U OK? DAY 💛

We spend a significant part of our lives at work, often alongside people we see more regularly than some of our closest friends and family. That puts us in a unique position to notice when a coworker may not seem quite like themselves.

The signs that someone is struggling are not always obvious. They may still show up, meet deadlines and smile, while quietly going through something incredibly difficult.

Checking in does not require the perfect words, and you do not need to have all the answers. Sometimes, simply asking “Are you OK?”, listening without judgement and checking in again later can make someone feel seen, supported and less alone.

Today is a reminder to look beyond the usual “How are you?” and take the time to genuinely ask, and be ready to listen to the answer.

A conversation can make a real difference. 💛

🌟 TAMARA HAGE – ONE OF OUR REGION’S RISING STARS 🌟

Congratulations to Tamara Hage on being named among the Daily Mercury’s 30 and Under Rising Stars of the Mackay and Whitsundays region.

At just 30, Tamara is already a Senior Associate at McKays Solicitors, advising individuals, family-owned businesses, local governments and ASX-listed organisations on complex commercial and business matters.

She has developed particular expertise in employment and industrial relations, personal property securities and local government law and leads McKays’ work involving the Personal Property Securities Act and Register.

Born and raised in Mackay, Tamara graduated with First Class Honours and a University Medal before returning home to build her legal career. She has also served as a Director of the Resource Industry Network, presented for organisations including the Australian HR Institute and RIN, and regularly delivers seminars to McKays’ clients.

What makes Tamara truly exceptional is not simply her technical expertise. She takes the time to understand each client’s organisation, industry and objectives, providing advice that is clear, practical and commercially valuable.

Tamara is an outstanding example of the sophisticated careers young professionals can build right here in regional Queensland, and we are very fortunate to have her as part of the McKays team.

We are incredibly proud to announce that McKays Solicitors has won the Australian Legal Practice Management Award for Excellence in External Impact Initiatives.

The award recognises a program we created to give local students a first-hand look at the legal profession and the opportunities it can offer.

As a regional law firm, it was particularly rewarding to be recognised alongside, and competing against, some of Australia’s large national law firms.

To make the win even more special, our submission received the highest score across all categories in this year’s awards!

A great deal of work went into bringing the initiative to life, and we’re very grateful to our team and everyone who supported it.

PROUDLY SUPPORTING GALAXY INFINITY 🏐

McKays Solicitors is delighted to sponsor Galaxy Infinity from Galaxy Netball Club, competing in the Wednesday night Senior Competition at Mackay Netball Association.

Coached by Jordan Ahwang and Carolyn Taylor, the team brings together players aged from 14 to 39, with younger players developing alongside more experienced athletes in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Their new kit looks fantastic, and we’re excited to see the team representing us so proudly on the court each week.
