🚨 MAJOR AUSTRALIAN STUDENT VISA CHANGES — EFFECTIVE 2 OCTOBER 2026!!

Important changes are now in effect for international students, families, and temporary visa holders in Australia.

🎓 STUDENT VISA & FAMILY MEMBERS
For many Student visa applicants, bringing a spouse or dependent children is now restricted.

Limited exemptions may apply, Including Certain:

• PhD students
• DFAT/Defence-sponsored students
• Foreign government scholarship holders
• Eligible Pacific and ASEAN students
• Certain applicants with family already included on an existing Student visa

⚠️ CURRENT STUDENTS — NEEDING ANOTHER STUDENT VISA?
Current Student visa holders may no longer be able to simply apply for another Student visa while remaining in Australia.
In many situations, the new Student visa may need to be lodged and granted offshore.

There are limited exemptions, including some students who:

• Need up to 12 additional months to complete their existing course with the same provider
• Are progressing to a higher AQF level
• Are PhD students
• Are affected by certain provider/course closures or defaults

🏫 CHANGING EDUCATION PROVIDERS
From 2 October 2026, non-school international students generally need to remain with their principal course/provider for 12 months before transferring to another provider.
Exceptions may apply in certain circumstances.

📅 FROM 1 JULY 2027
Further changes are planned for students changing providers, including a new Student visa transfer stream and additional restrictions around changing AQF levels.

✈️ OTHER TEMPORARY VISA HOLDERS
