I have been contacted by a couple of people to alert me that they have received an email from this address asking them to open an attachment to review a document. Please DO NOT open the file report it and delete. It makes me so upset that these scams are so rampant.
this is the email address that was sent and does not represent any of the emails I use:

From 1 July 2026, law firms will be brought into Australia’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) regime. Similar requirements have applied to banks, casinos and other financial institutions for many years, and these changes are designed to strengthen protections across all professional services. Accountants, conveyancers, real estate agents and precious metal traders are also being brought into the regime.

These reforms are designed to detect, deter, and disrupt criminals from disguising illegally obtained funds as legitimate income and to prevent financial resources from reaching terrorist organisations.

What this means for you

As we will be providing you with a ‘designated services’, we will need to request identification documents or additional information.

If you are acting on behalf of a company, trust or other structure, we may also be required to obtain and verify the identity of the individuals who ultimately own or control that entity (ie have 25% or more ownership or are in senior executive roles). This may include obtaining documentation to confirm identity. This helps ensure we understand who we are acting for and to meet our regulatory obligations.

We appreciate that providing this information takes time, and we will only request what is legally necessary. Protecting your privacy and confidentiality is very important to us

We are working to make this process as smooth as possible.

33 years today I started my business with only a phone and an electric typewriter. This is definitely not what I planned when I graduated from university. I have kept my folder of rejection letters from prospective Law Firms, with each one bringing a new level of despair. Eventually, I started my first year as a practising Lawyer in Hoppers Crossing, with a promise I would be trained in many facets of law only to be thrown in the deep end on my first day. Within 3 months I received an offer to work at the prestige city firm of Abbott Stillman and Wilson working in their commercial litigation department. I must admit it was one of the hardest decisions and I reluctantly declined their offer, having chosen loyalty to the firm that gave me the first opportunity. Not long after, I was told that the firm would be closing. I knew I had to start looking for another position without delay. Before I had a chance to start applying, Mr. Kevin Renwick, from Hotondo Homes knocked on my door with boxes of files that he had collected from my previous employer and asked if I wanted to keep working for him. Completely out of my comfort zone, I replied with an ok. Anyone who has worked in conveyancing knows that the industry never stops and there are always deadlines. Racing out to buy a desk, a chair, and an electric typewriter (we did not have computers back in 1993), my business was born. The early days were difficult having to rely on my own judgment and decisions without a mentor and having to build my reputation and client base, with word of mouth being the best form of advertising. Being a visionary, working from home back then was not the norm and perhaps I was not taken as seriously as if I had an office elsewhere. I am proud that I have operated with honesty and integrity and without having to pay secret referral fees to agents for work. So, I want to thank each and every one of my clients, from the very first person who took a chance on me, to those who continue to provide referrals, to those who continue to use my services and to the next generation purchasing their first home. I appreciate you all. ❤️ with Dorina Stancu

I am truly saddened to hear that Jennifer McBain has passed away. Many would remember her as the local maternal health nurse. I am so glad that I was able to visit her late last year and on a few occasions over the years. Jen was our maternal health nurse who looked after all four of my children and saved my sanity while I worked full time from home whilst juggling motherhood. Her face would light up around babies and she had such a passion for her work. I admired her so much. We became friends and then I was entrusted as her lawyer. She became one of my fiercest advocates and supporters and gave me more credit than I deserved. May she rest in eternal peace.
