Spring is here… and so are the uninvited guests!
As the weather warms up across Tasmania, we're not the only ones becoming more active outdoors.
Ants, spiders, flies and other household pests can start making their presence known as spring settles in.
The good news? A few simple preventative measures can help make your home a little less inviting to unwanted visitors.

🐜 Seal potential entry points
Check for gaps around doors, windows and pipes where insects might find their way inside.
🕷️ Give outdoor areas a tidy-up
Clear away unnecessary clutter, leaf litter and debris around entrances, outdoor furniture and storage areas.
🪟 Check your flyscreens
Repair any holes or damaged screens before warmer weather brings more flying insects.
💧 Remove standing water
Empty containers, clear blocked gutters and check areas where water may collect. This can help reduce mosquito breeding opportunities.
🍎 Keep food properly stored
Wipe down kitchen surfaces, clean up crumbs and store food in sealed containers to discourage ants and other pests.
🌿 Keep vegetation under control
Trim plants growing against the house and keep outdoor areas well maintained.

A little prevention now can save a lot of frustration later!

Spring is well and truly underway — and our gardens are starting to notice. 🌱
After a long Tasmanian winter, October is a lovely time to head outside and give the garden a little attention.
You don’t need to completely transform the backyard, either. Clearing away winter debris, getting on top of weeds, refreshing garden beds and adding a little seasonal colour can make an enormous difference.
It’s also a good time to simply walk around the garden and notice what’s thriving, what needs some attention and what you might like to change before summer arrives.
And if gardening isn’t exactly your favourite weekend activity? Start small. One garden bed absolutely counts.

Food has an incredible way of bringing people together.

A favourite family recipe, a meal shared with friends, something grown locally, or that one comfort food you always come back to — food is often about much more than what’s on the plate.

Today, on World Food Day, we’re celebrating the food, producers, growers and communities behind the meals we enjoy, while remembering the importance of making good food accessible to everyone.

And because everyone has that one meal they could happily eat again and again, we want to know yours.
