I didn’t set out to become a lawyer - I did a law degree because I was undecided about my career and thought it would be a useful degree to undertake. I’ve stayed in the law because it is intellectually challenging and I am always learning.

A little bit of fear or uncertainty about your position means you care and you are thinking about things. If you are over-confident, that’s not usually a good sign.

I love to catch up with family and friends, cook, test out the amazing restaurants and enjoy the beautiful outdoor environment that Tasmania has.

𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚, 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙮?

All four of my grandparents, who have passed. We moved to Tasmania and away from them when I was 4 and so I didn’t spend that much time with them growing up. They immigrated from different parts of Europe after the second world war. The leap of faith they took to move to the other side of the world away from family, friends and their home environments amazes me. I would love to hear directly from them what it was like growing up when they were younger, and to learn more about their experiences and perspectives on things now that I am an adult.

Last week, our Agency team member and second-year law student Aimee Stacey headed to Melbourne with her University of Tasmania teammates to compete in the Honourable Michael Kirby Contract Law Moot.

Following 12 weeks of preparation, the team put their legal research, written submissions and advocacy skills to the test, competing against universities from across Australia and presenting their arguments to members of the Victorian legal profession.

For Aimee, it was a fantastic opportunity to take her learning beyond the lecture theatre and into a professional legal setting – building valuable advocacy skills and gaining experience that will no doubt stay with her throughout her legal career.

At Wallace Wilkinson & Webster, we love seeing our people challenge themselves, pursue their goals and grow in their chosen profession. We’re proud to support Aimee as she balances her studies with gaining real-world experience in our Agency team.

With the AFL Grand Final just around the corner, WWW have traded our usual office attire for a splash of footy (sports) colours!

It was great to see the team getting into the spirit of the day, showing support for their favourite clubs, enjoying a bit of friendly rivalry, and raising funds for our current charity, Epilepsy Tasmania.

Goodluck to all the Brisbane and Fremantle supporters tomorrow!

Last week our team took some time to focus on something that matters in every demanding profession: resilience.

We were pleased to be hosting seminars for our staff on Resilience & Managing Workplace Pressure, facilitated by Katie Murray Coaching.

The sessions were focused on practical strategies to:
- Respond constructively to pressure and setbacks
- Maintain composure and focus during demanding periods
- Recognise and manage the risk of burnout
- Build sustainable habits that support long-term performance and wellbeing

Working in the legal profession can be challenging and fast-paced, so creating space to step back, reflect and build practical tools is an important part of supporting our people.

A great opportunity for our team to learn, connect and invest in their wellbeing, not just for the day, but for the long term.

Tuesday morning saw a group of our lawyers attend the Women in law breakfast, organised by the Tasmanian University Law Society and co hosted by our very own Aimee Stacey , a second year law student working in our Agency area.

The keynote speaker was former Governor of Tasmania and Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Tasmania, Kate Warner. Professor Warner informed and entertained the guests with the story of her journey in the law and as Governor.

A great time was had by all and we are glad to support TULS and the Womens Legal Service.

On Friday, our Litigation Department solicitors headed along to the annual Australian Insurance Law Association - AILA Tasmanian Workers Compensation Masterclass.

We were pleased to have our very own Michael Valentine, Partner, moderate the session “Recovery vs Deterioration: The s86(1)(c) conundrum and progressive diseases.”

It was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues across the industry, share insights and engage in thoughtful discussion on some of the key issues impacting workers compensation law.

The monsoon season in Singapore – having grown up there, this is the season of tropical storms, a lot of rain, and a nice break from the hot tropical weather.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆?

The most adventurous thing I have ever done is to move from the place where I grew up to an entirely different country. I first moved for the purpose of studying for my degree, but later on remained to live as a husband and a dad. Besides the change in environment and culture, I have also had to go from being the (independent) “child” in the household to the responsible adult and parent of my own household.
