A lovely start to the day for Catherine Morgan, Amelia Goss, Aimee Hope and Shadhini Kuruvitaaratchy at the 2026 Women in Law Breakfast.

Hosted by the Tasmania University Law Society - TULS, the annual breakfast celebrates women across Tasmania’s legal profession and academia and raises funds for Women’s Legal Service Tasmania.

This year, guests heard from Emeritus Professor Kate Warner before enjoying the chance to catch up with colleagues and meet law students from across Tasmania.

We were delighted to sponsor the breakfast, with all proceeds going directly to support the client services of Women's Legal Service Tasmania Inc.

We’re delighted to congratulate Beth Hanley on her admission to practice and her new role as a Lawyer at Dobson Mitchell Allport.

Beth first joined DMA as a seasonal clerk and later worked with us as a paralegal while completing her studies. Following her admission, she has joined our Dispute Resolution & Litigation team as a Lawyer.

It’s been wonderful to have Beth as part of DMA throughout her studies, and we’re very pleased to see her begin her career as a lawyer with us.

We’re very pleased to congratulate Chloe Davis on her admission to practice and welcome her to her new role as a Lawyer at Dobson Mitchell Allport.

Chloe joined DMA as a paralegal in our Insurance Litigation team and, following her admission, is now practising as a Lawyer within the team.

DMA Counsel Craig Green joined Kelsey Paske, Adviser at Women's Legal Service Tasmania Inc , to present at the Law Society of Tasmania 2026 Employment Law Conference.

Their session, NDAs in Sexual Harassment Matters: Legislative Reform and Professional Obligations, examined the use of non-disclosure agreements in workplace sexual harassment matters.

Kelsey discussed how NDAs have become routinely used in these matters and the detrimental effect they can have on victim-survivors.

Craig explored recent developments, including Magar v Khan and Victorian reforms restricting the use of NDAs, as well as the tension between confidentiality in settlement agreements and an employer’s positive duty to prevent sexual harassment.

The session also asked practitioners to look critically at their own approach, including the template Deeds of Release they rely on when resolving these matters.

We were very fortunate to welcome Tasmanian football great Alastair Lynch to DMA yesterday as a St Lukes Tasmania’s Community Ambassador.

Alastair shared stories from an incredible career spanning 306 AFL games and three consecutive premierships with the Brisbane Lions. He also spoke openly about his experiences with health and some of the lessons he has learned about looking after yourself through challenging periods.

It was a fascinating conversation, touching on everything from the pressures of elite sport to resilience and finding balance in everyday life.

Our partnership with St Luke’s gives our people access to health and wellbeing resources, and we were delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Alastair to DMA as part of that partnership.

Two children are now one step closer to coming home to Australia with their family.

Our Migration Lawyer, Shadhini Kuruvitaaratchy, has successfully secured Australian Citizenship by Descent for overseas-born twins born through surrogacy.

The matter involved navigating Australian citizenship law, international surrogacy arrangements and complex documentary requirements to establish the children’s entitlement to citizenship.

For their family, the outcome provides something much more important than a successful application: greater certainty and a pathway to bringing their children home to Australia.

Shadhini was supported throughout the matter by Migration Paralegal Eleanor Thomas, whose work was an important part of bringing the application to a successful conclusion.

We’re incredibly proud of Shadhini and Eleanor, and of the care, expertise and persistence they brought to helping this family take such an important step towards home.
