Some family law questions aren’t about money.
They’re about hope.

For couples who have gone through IVF, frozen embryos often represent years of heartache, resilience, sacrifice and the possibility of a future they worked incredibly hard to create.

So when a relationship ends, deciding what happens next can become one of the most emotional and complex issues of all.

These conversations aren’t simply about property. They’re about deeply personal hopes, beliefs and competing futures.

There are legal principles that may apply, but there are rarely simple answers.

Every situation depends on its own facts, the agreements already in place and the wishes of the people involved.

If this is something you’re navigating, know that you don’t have to carry the weight of these decisions alone.

Some legal questions require more than legal answers… They require compassion, sensitivity and careful guidance.

🤍 If this topic touches your life, we’re here to help you understand your options with care, not judgement.

We've started hearing it more often.

"ChatGPT said I'd get the house." or... "AI told me I didn't have to disclose that."

AI can be an incredible tool for understanding legal terms, brainstorming questions or helping you make sense of information.

But it can't ask the follow-up questions that change everything. It doesn't know your financial circumstances. It doesn't know your parenting arrangements. It doesn't know what's happened in your relationship. And it certainly doesn't know what a court would consider in *your* case.

The biggest risk isn't using AI. It's assuming it's correct... and that a general answer applies to your specific situation.

Use AI to become more informed, just don't let it make decisions that could shape your future.

Because when it comes to family law, context isn't just important.

It's everything.

Have questions after using AI? Bring them with you. Sometimes the best starting point is understanding what applies to your circumstances, not someone else's. 🤍

People often think family lawyers only see people at their worst. And, in many ways, that’s true. We meet people on the days they never imagined they’d have to face. When they’re exhausted. Heartbroken. Overwhelmed. Unsure of what’s next.

But we also get to witness something pretty remarkable.

The first smile after weeks of tears. The confidence that slowly starts to return. The moment someone stops talking about what they’ve lost and starts talking about what they’re building.

Those moments don’t happen because the legal paperwork is finished.

They happen because people begin to realise they’re stronger than they ever believed.

That’s one of the greatest privileges of this work 🙏🏼🤍

Not just helping someone through a legal process.

But watching them rediscover themselves along the way.

And that’s a front-row seat we’ll never take for granted.

One of the biggest challenges during separation is the noise.

Everyone has a story to share…
“My cousin got everything.”

“My mate’s ex took the house.”

“You’ll definitely end up in court.”

“Don’t agree to anything.”

Most of it is well-intentioned. But every family is different. Every relationship is different. And every legal matter is different.

Making decisions based on someone else’s separation is a bit like asking someone who’s had knee surgery to tell you how to treat your broken arm.

You might get advice, but just might not be the right advice.

The best thing you can do is understand your options, your rights and your circumstances before making decisions that could affect your future.

Every separation is different. If you’re looking for advice that’s based on your circumstance… not someone else’s… we’re here when you’re ready.

Children are incredibly observant.

They notice the slammed doors, the silence the change in routine and the tension in the room.

Even when they don’t understand what’s happening, they often know that something has changed.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your children during separation isn’t pretending everything is perfect.

It’s allowing them to keep being children.
To let them worry about school, friends, soccer practice and what’s for dinner, not court dates, legal letters or adult conflict.

They don’t need to carry the weight of decisions that were never theirs to make.
Protecting children during separation isn’t about hiding the truth.

It’s about protecting them from burdens they were never meant to carry.

One day, they may not remember every detail of the separation.

But they will remember how safe they felt.
And that’s something worth protecting. 🤍

There are moments during separation where emotions run so high that sending the text feels impossible to resist. We get it. The problem is, once it's sent, you can't take it back (well, technically, you can unsend. But the recipient may have already seen it then).

We've seen messages sent in anger, frustration, fear and hurt become the very thing that escalates a situation that might otherwise have settled.

Before you hit send, ask yourself three questions:

• Am I trying to solve a problem, or express an emotion?
• Would I be comfortable reading this message out loud in six months' time?
• Is this moving us closer to a resolution, or further away from one?

Not every message needs to be sent immediately.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is step away, sleep on it, and come back when the emotion has settled.

A thoughtful response almost always carries more weight than a reactive one.

Your future self will thank you for it. 🤍

When someone’s separating, advice comes from everywhere. Some of it’s helpful. Some of it’s well-intentioned.

And some of it only adds to the overwhelm.

But if there was one thing we’d want every person navigating separation to remember, it’s this… You don’t have to have it all figured out today. You really don’t. You don’t have to make every decision this week.

This is one of the biggest transitions you’ll ever experience. It’s okay if it feels messy. It’s okay if your emotions don’t make sense some days.
And it’s okay to ask for help from people who can guide you through the legal, financial and emotional pieces of what’s ahead.

The goal isn’t to rush through this chapter. It’s to move through it with enough support that, one day, you can look back and know you made decisions from a place of clarity, not fear.

And remember, this chapter isn’t just about what you’re leaving behind. It’s also about the life you’re slowly building next. 🤍

Not every part of healing has to be productive.

Some days, healing looks like ticking things off a to-do list.

Other days, it looks like ordering takeaway, putting your phone on silent and watching a movie that reminds you there's still life, laughter and possibility on the other side of this chapter.

These are great films with stories about courage, reinvention and about finding yourself when life doesn't go to plan.

If you're navigating a difficult season, we hope one of these gives you exactly what you need today.

And if you have a movie that helped you through a hard chapter of your life, we'd love to hear it. Someone else reading the comments might need that recommendation too. 🤍

🎬 Save this list for your next movie night.

One of the greatest myths about separation is that if love was real, the relationship would have lasted. Have you heard that before?

But after years of working with families, we’ve learned that life is rarely that simple.

Sometimes people leave because the relationship has become unhealthy.

Sometimes they leave because they’ve tried everything they know how to try.

Sometimes they leave because staying is no longer the kindest option for anyone involved.
Especially the children.

Choosing separation doesn’t always mean love has disappeared.

Sometimes it means the relationship can no longer provide the safety, respect or peace that every family deserves.

The end of a relationship doesn’t erase the good that came before it, though, and it doesn’t define everything that comes after.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is choose a healthier future, even when it’s the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make.

🤍 Save this for the days you need the reminder that love and letting go can exist at the same time.

Somewhere along the way, we’ve been taught that separation has to end in a courtroom.

Maybe it’s the movies? or even the horror stories we hear from friends (or Facebook Groups).

Maybe it’s because conflict feels so big that we can’t imagine another way through it.

But here’s what we’ve learnt after years of practising family law… The louder the conflict, the more people assume court is the answer.

Often, it’s the opposite.

The best outcomes rarely come from asking, “How do I win?”, they come from asking, “How do we move forward?”

That doesn’t mean every matter can avoid court.
But it does mean it’s rarely the only path worth exploring.

And sometimes, knowing you have options is the first moment you can finally take a deep breath.

🤍 Every family’s story is different. Your pathway should be too. And if you need guidance, please reach out 🙏🏼
