No rest for the Fox and Thomas Team as Chrissy, Nick and Michael joined Isabella and Genie last week at Ekka’s Beef Week events.

With the spirit of Ekka being connecting the city with the country, our team waved the flag for our small (but mighty) regional firm across Brisbane meeting with industry professionals, advisors, clients and the like to reconnect, make new connections and share stories about our regional and rural communities that are integral to the agribusiness sector.

You might have seen our team at the Young Agribusiness Rural Network (YARN) event, the annual City Meets Country 2026 held by Ray White Rural Queensland and Bentleys, JLL’s annual Agribusiness Ekka gathering, the Rabobank luncheon, the Queensland Country Life Showgirl Awards (which Fox and Thomas were proud to sponsor) or the Rural, Regional and Remote (RRR) Womens Long Lunch.

The absolute highlight for our team was the Rural Press Club Ekka Breakfast with guest speaker Terry Nolan of Nolan Meets. Fittingly, relationships were the theme of Terry’s address as he reflected on the relationships with his family, mentors and industry professionals which have helped shape his life and his truly remarkable family business. His message was a reminder of the importance of making connections, having a go and giving back to our industry.

Whether you’re at the stockman’s bar or in the boardroom, Ekka provides an incredible opportunity and relaxed environment for us to learn of the developments, trials, and predictions within our agribusiness sector and to hear the stories which make it so special.

After a week of gallivanting and new learnings, our team are now back at work and looking forward to sharing their invaluable industry insights from the Ekka with our clients.

On 31 July 2026, the Fox & Thomas team attended the Macintyre Ag Alliance Field Day hosted by Coggan Farms.

The event provided valuable insights into the latest developments in agricultural innovation, including the Coggan family's use of emerging agtech solutions such as Halter technology and robotic spray rigs to enhance operational efficiency.

Attendees also heard from Jack Groat on natural sequence farming and practical strategies for making more effective use of rainfall across grazing operations.

Fox and Thomas’ Michael Cowley presented on structuring considerations for primary production businesses following the Federal Budget.

Fox & Thomas is proud to sponsor the Macintyre Ag Alliance and extends its thanks to the organisers and presenters for delivering such an informative event.

On 23 July 2026, we celebrated the first anniversary of our Fox and Thomas Brisbane office.

The event was huge success, and we thank our clients and connections who made the effort to attend and help us celebrate.

This marks a huge milestone for our growing practice, and it wouldn’t be possible without the trust, collaboration and commitment of our clients, referrers, and advisors.

As the celebrations continue, the Fox and Thomas Team will be out and about at both the Australian Cotton Conference on the Gold Coast from 4 to 6 August 2026 and pre-Ekka events across Brisbane this week.

If you see us, please be sure to say hello or get in contact if you would like to catch up with the Team at either of these events (it’s our shout…).

On Wednesday night, Fox and Thomas attended the Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce Meet My Business After Hours event hosted by Betta Goondiwindi.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from Betta Goondiwindi owners, Matt & Sarah, about growing a successful regional business, along with valuable insights from Telstra and NBN Co on local connectivity and upcoming fibre upgrades for our region.

Thank you to the Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce and Betta Goondiwindi for hosting another informative and worthwhile networking event.

Landholders are at the intersection between two major economic forces: the established coal seam gas (CSG) industry and the expanding renewable energy sector. While both offer landholders the potential to generate a new income stream from the land, the overlapping project footprints and competing operational needs are creating significant legal and practical challenges which landholders need to be aware of before commencing negotiations.
This bulletin will explain the legal frameworks governing access and use of the land, the relationship between CSG and renewable energy agreements and primary impacts on landholders. Read our latest bulletin to find out more. https://foxthomas.com.au/coal-seam-gas-csg-or-renewable-energy-projects-when-two-worlds-collide/

Fox and Thomas recently attended the Rural Press Club luncheon in Brisbane, where Rob McGavin, Co-Founder of Cobram Estate, shared the remarkable story behind one of Australia's great agribusiness success stories.

From his upbringing on a grazing property near Barcaldine to building Australia's leading olive oil producer, Rob's presentation provided valuable insights into leadership, innovation, resilience and the importance of maintaining a long-term vision.

His reflections on overcoming challenges, surrounding yourself with the right people and creating a strong organisational culture resonated with many in the room. Particularly relevant for regional Australia was Rob's focus on the need for strong businesses, industry and innovation to drive future growth and competitiveness.

We appreciate the opportunity to hear from leaders such as Rob and to engage in conversations about the future of Australian agriculture, agribusiness and regional communities.

Thank you to the Rural Press Club Queensland and Rob McGavin for an insightful and inspiring event.

Fox and Thomas are proud to be sponsoring the upcoming Macintyre Ag Alliance Field Day this Friday.

Michael Cowley and the team will be in attendance, with Michael joining the end-of-day panel to discuss the effects of the Federal Budget on Agribusiness.

We look forward to attending the event and hope to see you there - be sure to say hello!!!

Federal Budget changes and family trusts, will it affect your farm?

If you've got questions, you're not the only one.

There's been plenty of discussion about the Federal Budget and its potential impact on trusts. Instead of relying on rumours around the pub, come along to Friday's Field Day and hear from someone who deals with these issues every day.

We're pleased to welcome Michael Cowley from Fox and Thomas Business Lawyers, who'll be joining our end-of-day panel discussion to unpack the latest developments and answer your questions.

Bring your questions, hear the facts, and leave with a clearer understanding of what is happening.

We look forward to seeing you there, this Friday!
