Our client recently described our team as “outstanding”—not only because of the outcome we achieved, but because every person they spoke with understood the matter and kept them informed throughout the process.

This was a difficult property settlement. At the last minute, the buyer sought a reduction in the purchase price, claiming that certain items shown in a two-year-old marketing video were included in the sale—even though those items were not part of the contract.

Through constant communication, careful review and decisive action, we addressed the issue, protected our client’s contractual position and ensured settlement proceeded.

I was delighted to present to the legal profession yesterday at the QLS Specialist Practice Conference on a topic close to my heart: “Challenges in Advising Buyers in Off-the-Plan Transactions.”

Off-the-plan transactions can present buyers—and their advisers—with a unique mix of contractual complexity, commercial pressure and rapidly evolving risk. It was a privilege to share practical insights on navigating these challenges, protecting clients’ interests and helping buyers make informed decisions at every stage of the transaction.

Thank you to Queensland Law Society for the opportunity, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion, in particular Tracy Skellern who co-presented with me and provided her own unique insights from a risk perspective, and to Sheila Kushe MAICD General Manager, Customer Solutions as Chair.

I appreciated the chance to connect with fellow practitioners who are equally committed to supporting clients through this complex area of property law.

With 6 interest rate rises already this year, with one more on the horizon between now and Christmas, the budget announcement in May, the AML Laws that commenced 1 July, and the recent Supreme Court decision of the Malligan case on sunset dates (currently on appeal), it made for a very timely and valuable discussion for all.

I am pleased to share that I have been appointed as a returning member of the Queensland PEXA Practitioner Advisory Council for FY27.

It is a privilege to continue contributing to important conversations about the evolving digital property settlement landscape, sharing practitioner perspectives and helping shape practical improvements for the profession in Qld and beyond, as well as shaping the experience for the end consumer in property transactions.

Thank you to PEXA for the opportunity. I look forward to continue collaborating with fellow Council members and representing the experiences and priorities of Queensland practitioners throughout FY27.

Thank you to Lucy Cole for the kind invitation to attend as her guest at the End of Financial Year Breakfast for Lucy Cole PrestigeProperties. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with professional colleagues and industry peers to reflect on the property sector and the Gold Coast market.

The event was professionally hosted and thoughtfully presented, with a positive and engaging focus that provided a welcome opportunity to step back from the ongoing challenges and demands experienced across the property industry over the past year.

Key developments, including the Seller Disclosure Regime one year on from August 2025, the May 2026 budget announcement and its impact on the investment market, and the introduction of the AML/CTF laws on 1 July, have reinforced the importance of adaptability, professionalism and continued collaboration within the sector.

Thank you again to Lucy Cole and the Lucy Cole Prestige Properties team for bringing together such a strong network of property professionals and for hosting a constructive and enjoyable start to the new financial year, and an acknowledgement by Lucy of the Greek Women at this event, Lucy Cole, Angela Mavrakis, Despina Voudouris and of course myself Despina Priala (picture of the 4 of us below).
