Congratulations to the very talented artists who created the winning baubles for 2025, and a big thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. ✨🎅🏼🎄
The creativity on display was exceptional! We had rainbows, gems, feathers, glitter, tinsel and cellophane transformed into stained-glass effects, along with many other imaginative designs. We were delighted to see entries from artists across Inverell, Glen Innes, and surrounding communities. We look forward to welcoming our little artists back in a few months for our egg decorating competition, and we cannot wait to see your creativity shine once again.
✨Why do we do this?✨
Because art matters. It gives voice where words fall short, invites connection between people, nurtures confidence in young minds, and reminds us of our shared humanity. Above all, it brings joy! And when joy is shared, it multiplies. If we can create a small moment of happiness for children, that joy ripples outward into the wider community by being seen and felt.
There is also a quieter joy that many do not witness, but we do. It is found in our waiting rooms, where people often sit during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, after the loss someone they love, while selling the family home filled with decades of memories, or while planning an estate knowing there may not be another Christmas ahead. In those moments, they step away from the chairs, and wander over to the wall to look at all of the little artworks hanging from string.
Sometimes they read the names and ages on the back and smile. “Wow! Jack, aged five, how clever,” they say, and if we’re lucky, a story follows about their own child at that age. For a moment, the heaviness lifts from a world of grief, stress, or uncertainty.
So while this may appear to be a silly little colouring-in competition, the joy it creates is far greater than it seems.
