Whyte, Just & Moore wasn't always one firm.

In 1877, Thomas Napier Whyte opened his own legal practice on Yarra Street, Geelong. Around the same time, A.V.J. Just started his own on Malop Street.

In 1896, Just partnered with Frederick Moore to form 'Just & Moore'. In 1904, that firm purchased Whyte's original practice, and the two came together as Whyte, Just & Moore, operating from 27 Malop Street.

A.V.J. Just kept practising until 1952, nearly 40 years after the merger that created the firm's name.

Almost 150 years later, we're still at the heart of Geelong, still guided by the same commitment to clear, honest advice that Whyte, Just, and Moore built their reputations on.

We always tell our business and commercial clients that we like to work alongside their accountants and other professional advisers.

If your lawyer and accountant are kept separate, then your lawyer probably doesn't have all the facts about your tax position.
And your accountant likely won't know the ins and outs of your business contract.

At minimum, a valid will should cover:

➡️ Who you want to look after your children, if you have kids under 18
➡️ Who receives your assets, and in what share
➡️ Who you're appointing as executor, the person responsible for carrying out your wishes
➡️ Specific gifts, like a piece of jewellery or family items you want to go to someone in particular
➡️ What happens if a beneficiary passes away before you do

Writing a will yourself can cause more problems than it solves.
A will has to meet specific legal requirements to be valid, and small mistakes, like unclear wording, can lead to disputes or delays down the track.

Insolvency just means a business can't pay its debts as they fall due. It doesn't automatically mean liquidation, and it doesn't mean the business has to close its doors.

There are several paths available, including voluntary administration, which can give a business breathing room to restructure and keep trading, and options that focus on repaying creditors over time rather than shutting everything down.
The right path depends on your situation.

And the earlier a business gets advice, the more options are usually on the table.

We've seen this happen a few times:
Two people start a company together, get on well, and sign a shareholders' agreement without much thought about what happens if things go wrong.

Years later, a disagreement comes up. Maybe a big decision or an exit, and suddenly everyone's looking back at an agreement they haven't read in years.

By that point, it's often too late to change the terms.

We always tell business owners the same thing: get your agreement reviewed while things are still friendly, not after a disagreement forces the issue.
