Ashwani Upadhyaye, India's Public Interest Litigation man and Supreme Court lawyer was at the center of rally on Sunday 8 August at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. He has claimed he had left the rally venue after the meeting was over and was at home when anti Muslim slogans were raised as has been shown in the video which went viral all over the world.
Ashwani along with 5 others was arrested by Delhi police in relation to the anti muslim sloganeering and for allegedly "promoting enmity between two communities".
He completely denied any link to the video or the content of it and claimed innocence.
According to the timeline being talked about, Upadhyaye had arrived at the rally at 10.00am and had reached home by about 1.30pm. The said video, which is now subject of investigation was allegedly recorded around 3.00pm - 4.00pm.
In the court, his lawyers were able to convince the judge - that he will not run away, or temper with evidence and will fully cooperate with police investigation and thus on certain conditions, he was released on bail.
