It was fantastic to attend the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand X Central Coast Law Society networking event last week at Trojans Bistro & Bar with Hannah, Paris, Jasmine, Bianca, Dominique, Tanya and Michael catching up with local lawyers and accountants from across the region.

It was a great evening of conversation and connection, and hearing perspectives from both sides of the legal and accounting professions. A valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships within the local professional community and continue building connections in our local region, thanks to CAANZ and the Central Coast Law Society.

Surrogacy is a journey of hope, generosity and family building, grounded in the belief that families are built through love, intention and generosity.

For intended parents, surrogacy can be the fulfilment of a long-held dream. For surrogates, it’s an extraordinary gift that shapes another family’s future.

Grounded in both lived experience and legal expertise, our team supports intended parents and surrogates with care, clarity and understanding at every stage.

If you’re exploring surrogacy or ready to begin the journey, we’re here to walk alongside you.

When parenting arrangements are disputed, the outcome often depends on clear evidence and careful preparation.

In our latest case study, Senior Associate Dominique Markwort shares how our team supported a mother in successfully defending existing parenting orders, in a complex family law matter, where preparation was key.

Last week, Michael had the privilege of speaking at the Central Coast Grammar School Year 12 Colloquium Dinner.

As students prepare for life beyond school, Michael shared reflections on the importance of "doing hard things", protecting yourself from burnout, and choosing the right co-pilots in life. As a Central Coast Grammar School alumni, and member of the school community, it’s always a meaningful opportunity to return and connect with the next generation.

Thank you to CCGS for the invitation, and particularly to Mandy Vickers for arranging the evening.

"Last year, after our experience acting as a surrogate for close friends, we knew this was something we wanted to be part of. As a family, and as a firm, we believe that those who can, must."

Families hold wealth in many different ways, and as financial arrangements become more complex, there’s a growing focus on how assets are structured, protected and ultimately treated if a relationship comes to an end.

It’s an area where estate planning and family law increasingly overlap, raising important questions around trusts, inheritances and long-term asset protection.

We help clients understand how trusts and inheritances are treated, so they can make confident, informed decisions for the future. If you’re navigating estate planning, read our latest case study to learn more ➡️ https://setonfamily.law/trusts-and-family-law/

It's easy to tell ourselves everything will be better, including our mental health, when the workload lightens or when the next milestone is reached. But wellbeing can't wait for a quieter season. It needs space now. Being equipped and willing to say 'I'm not OK', or 'I need support', shows self-awareness and courage.

Open conversations, shared responsibility, and genuine care for one another helps lighten the mental load. When someone is carrying more than usual, we step in. When time away is needed, we protect it.

For us, a culture of trust and psychological safety strengthens our team and the families who place their confidence in us, because we know that mental health matters.

Michael continues to evolve his practice, strengthening his commitment to the changing nature of family and supporting more people through life’s most important moments. A champion of wellbeing and an advocate for meaningful change across the profession, his impact continues to be felt both within and beyond the courtroom.

It’s this approach that has seen Michael named as a finalist in the 2026 Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards, in the Family Law Partner of the Year category, after taking out Mentor of the Year, and the Excellence Award in 2025.

We’re so proud to see Michael recognised amongst leaders shaping the future of family law. Thank you to Lawyers Weekly for the honour, and congratulations to all the finalists.
