NEW CHANGES TO NSW ROAD WORK SPEED LIMITS NOW IN EFFECT

From 1 July 2026, NSW road work speed limits are being managed under a new statewide standard designed to improve consistency and safety in road work zones.

One of the key changes is that speed reductions in construction zones must be removed during non-work hours when it is safe to do so. This means reduced limits should no longer remain in place simply because a work site was previously active, if the site is not being worked on and it is safe to return the road to normal conditions.

Even with the new rules, temporary speed signs remain legally enforceable while in place. Drivers should not treat a reduced limit as optional simply because a site appears inactive unless the signage has been lawfully removed.

If you are a driver affected by a speeding issue, Anderson Boemi Lawyers can assist. Contact us on 9653 9466.
