The end of the financial year (EOFY) is always a busy time for Australian businesses. If your business sponsors skilled workers, or you’re thinking about sponsoring them in the new financial year, EOFY is an important time to check whether your workforce and visa plans are still current.

This is especially vital in 2026 as skilled visa income thresholds will increase from 1 July 2026, and will affect businesses planning to nominate employees under employer-sponsored visa pathways.

As part of your strategic workforce planning, our EOFY visa checklist can help you review your current sponsorships and prepare for future staffing needs. It gives you practical steps to take before the EOFY, especially if your business expects to grow, needs to fill skills gaps or wants to retain key overseas workers in the next financial year.

On 26 May, Rebecca hosted a workshop on skilled migration for regional employers in Swan Hill, as part of the May Means Business initiative from

There, Rebecca connected with local business owners and managers to hear about workforce and operational challenges regional businesses continue to face, such as how regional areas still feel disconnected from migration programs despite how these pathways can practically support their long-term workforce needs.

These communities are resilient, innovative and hardworking, yet they often don’t have the same access to information, support or opportunities as larger metropolitan areas.

This experience was especially meaningful for Rebecca, being born and raised in Swan Hill. She was proud of being able to return home and contribute to her community.

Thank you to Swan Hill Inc for this opportunity, because it only illuminates the need for practical, ethical and accessible migration support in regional Australia.

Our Director, Rebecca recently attended the Regional Migration Australia Conference on the Gold Coast. It was an interesting few days of conversations around Australia’s workforce shortages and where migration is heading over the next decade.

Takeaways from the conference include:

➡️ Australia’s need for skilled workers is definitely not slowing down, particularly across construction, health, education and infrastructure-related industries.

➡️ At the same time, the skilled visa invitation system is becoming tighter and more competitive than ever.

➡️ Recent budget announcements only reinforced the scale of what Australia is trying to deliver over the coming decade - from housing supply and major infrastructure projects through to renewable energy and advanced manufacturing investment.

The challenge, however, remains the same: none of this can happen without people.

While migration settings continue tightening in some areas, there also appears to be growing recognition that faster skills recognition, employer-driven migration pathways and stronger regional migration strategies will be essential if Australia is serious about addressing long-term workforce shortages.
