This week for Mental Health Week, our lawyer Callum hit the road to the West Coast to meet locals and other service providers at the Zeehan Study Hub plus drop in to the Rosebery Neighbourhood House.

Despite the weather being against us, it was lovely to meet and hear from locals regarding how we can continue to engage with and improve our services to their community ❤️

This week Ryan and Callum of our office attended the National Community Legal Centres Conference in Canberra.

It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with speakers and delegates from across the country, discussing the current and emerging issues facing the community legal sector. The conference was also a great chance to connect, learn, and bring new ideas back to our work in the North West.

The community legal sector plays a crucial role in facilitating access to justice — often without the recognition it deserves. Events like this highlight the strength, dedication, and impact of our sector nationwide.

Huge thanks to Community Legal Centres Australia for hosting such an insightful and inspiring event.

Are you jumping in the car and leaving the house with all your essentials?

Wallet, phone, keys, insurance.

A lot of the work we do involves people being in car accidents and not having insurance.

We see some very common misconceptions about insurance:

Provided my registration is paid, I get third party insurance.

I’ve never had an accident, I’ll be alright without it.

With the cost of living, it’s just too expensive.

I’m a good driver, I’ll never be at fault.

My car is only worth $500, I don’t need insurance.

The truth is:

Paying registration alone does not buy any third-party coverage in Tasmania.

You can be the best driver, however this won’t protect you from the fault of other drivers.

We all make mistakes.

With a bit of market research, third party policies can generally be found very cheaply. This will cover the other driver’s damages, but generally not your own.

Avoid some of the common outcomes we see:

For most people, it’s bloody stressful. If you are involved in an accident and you don’t have insurance, you are left dealing with the situation on your own. The law in this area can become complex and expensive.

All that money saved on insurance over the years will soon be forgotten. This money might soon go to a lawyer to help you and, to cover the other drivers’ damages, not to mention your own.

Being in an accident involving alcohol or illegal drugs will generally waive your policy of insurance. Don’t gamble with your life or your policy of insurance.

Been in an accident and need advice? Why not come and see us for initial and free advice to see where you might stand.
