Divorce: It’s not as easy as it looks

Some people think that other people get a divorce too easily. That’s not true for most of the people we see. Before people come to our office for help, they’ve bent over backwards to keep their relationship intact. They’ve usually been to counselling, negotiated, reasoned, complained, bargained and pleaded with their partner to make the changes they need to stay in the relationship.

They love their children, and don’t want to hurt them. They often still love their partner too. They just can’t stand feeling so helpless, or so sad, or so unloved any longer.

It’s not an easy decision to uproot yourself and your children from the only life they’ve ever known, and start again. It often takes our clients months, or even years, of careful consideration before they decide to file for divorce, and begin to fashion a better life for themselves and their children.
