Environmental and waste services receive $40.5 million. This includes tree planting, sustainability rebates, waste and recycling services and the new Canning Response Crew, a dedicated team tackling graffiti, illegal dumping and maintenance issues in public spaces.

"Our community wants a clean, green and well-maintained city," Mayor Hall said. "The Canning Response Crew will help us respond faster while our investment in trees, waste services and sustainability programs helps protect the environment."

⚠️ Reminder for short-stay accommodation providers

Consumer Protection has issued the first infringement under WA's Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) laws, with a $2,000 fine imposed for advertising a property without displaying a mandatory STRA registration number.

If you operate a short-stay rental, ensure your property is registered and your registration number appears in all advertisements.

The process to lodge a tenant's bond is simple and straight forward. There’s even an online system. There was no excuse for private landlord Jay-Dee Roderick to not have lodged his tenant's bond.

He was convicted in Perth Magistrates Court and fined $3,300. At the time of sentencing, the bond was over 900 days late to be lodged. This is despite our team attempting to help Mr Roderick do it.

A security bond is often one of the largest upfront costs a tenant faces when securing a rental property, which is why the law requires those funds to be protected through the Bond Administrator. A landlord has 14 days to lodge it.

💡Advice for tenants:
You should be given a receipt from your landlord at the time of payment and Bonds Administration will also send a record of payment directly to you – so you know your bond money is lodged safely.
