Had a visa refused? The way your review gets decided just changed (and it could mean you never get a hearing).

From 18 May 2026, the Administrative Review Tribunal introduced a new "on the papers" process for certain visa refusal reviews. Your case can now be decided entirely on your written submission and documents.

That means:
๐Ÿšซ No chance to explain in person
๐Ÿšซ No opportunity to respond to concerns face to face
๐Ÿ“„ What you put on paper is what the tribunal sees

The Australian Border Force has launched a nationwide compliance crackdown on the 407 training visa program. What are they looking for? Whether the training is real!

The subclass 407 visa was designed for structured occupational training and professional development - not as a general employment pathway.

Why is my visa taking so long? It's the number one question we get asked.
And the short answer is: demand is outweighing supply in addition to incomplete applications

What a lot of people don't realise is that something as small as an expired police clearance can be enough to delay your entire application, and when over 50% of applications in some streams are being lodged incomplete, it creates a ripple effect for everyone in the queue. Visas are also capped each migration program year.

Julie breaks down what's actually causing the delays and what you can do about it.

At the recent MIA Regional Conference, the big question was: what do we really mean by regional?

Most people assume regional means remote, but in Australia's migration system, "regional" covers almost everywhere outside Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. That means the Gold Coast, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart all sit under the same classification as places like Bourke. It's far broader than most people realise, and it opens up visa pathways that are worth understanding.

Here's a simple breakdown of how regional visas work, what the 491, 494 and 191 pathways look like, and why understanding the landscape right now matters more than ever.

From employer-sponsored visa โ†’ accreditation โ†’ permanent residency.

This wasn't a simple case. Kranthi was contracting in a related field, transitioned to part-time with the same employer, and was studying part-time alongside it. This meant getting one detail wrong could have put his whole application at risk.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Thank you Kranthi for trusting us with your journey, and for taking the time to share your experience:

"My experience with Migration Downunder has been exceptional. Alice, in particular, has been outstanding. She carefully assessed my situation, suggested the right options, and was actively involved in ensuring all my documentation was accurate. My case was quite complex and navigating these circumstances meant dealing with intricate visa clauses that could have jeopardized my application if not handled correctly. Thanks to Alice's expertise and attention to detail, everything was managed seamlessly and got all my work experience assessed without any deductions, which helped boost my point score. I am sincerely grateful for their guidance and professionalism, and I recommend Migration Downunder with complete confidence to anyone seeking reliable and compassionate migration support."

Carl and Julie had one goal: to retire in Australia, close to the family who had made it home.

It's a story we know well. Children who crossed oceans to build a life here and parents who eventually follow, because family has a way of making the distance feel impossible to keep.

Like most things worth doing, it wasn't without challenges. But, with our help, they got there.

Their journey had its twists. But that's the thing about the families who come to us, they're not looking for easy. They're looking for possible. Read their full story on our website.

If bringing your parents to Australia is something your family has been putting off, Mother's Day feels like the right time to stop thinking and start. Our team can walk you through every option.
