The order certain skilled visa applications are picked up for assessment has changed. Here’s where you sit. 👇

From 25 July 2026, Ministerial Direction 119 sets a new priority order based on two things:
Your occupation
Whether you were in Australia or outside Australia when you applied

Use the ladder to find where your application sits in the priority order. ⬆️

Remember: priority is not a speed guarantee, and it does not change the criteria you still need to meet. It only changes the order the Department picks up applications for assessment.

Happy Friday to everyone hoping to secure Northern Territory nomination! 🎉

The NT Government has officially opened its nomination program today, 21 August 2026, after receiving its full allocation for the 2026-27 program year.

Even better news, the Northern Territory has received 200 more nomination places than last year, creating additional opportunities for skilled migrants looking to call the Top End home.

Applications are now open for all onshore streams and selected offshore streams, but make sure you review the updated eligibility criteria before applying.

Christina & Julie had the pleasure of attending the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) Western Australia Conference last week.

Some of the key updates shared included:

✅ A stronger focus on prioritising skilled migrants who are already living and working in Australia under Ministerial Direction 119.

✅ Upcoming reforms to the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program, designed to better identify and attract highly skilled migrants who will contribute to Australia's long-term economic needs.

✅ A new points test planned for March 2027, with changes expected to raise the bar for invitations under the Subclass 189 and Subclass 190 visa programs.

✅ Expansion of the Subclass 462 Work and Holiday Visa ballot system to provide a fairer allocation of visa places, while continuing to support regional workforce needs through existing regional work requirements.

The clear message from the conference was that Australia's migration system is increasingly focused on attracting and retaining the right skills, while recognising the contribution of people already living and working here.

When their children and grandchildren made the move to Australia, Rosemary and Darryl knew they had to follow.

They applied for the 864 Contributory Parent Visa in 2018, and after seven and a half years of waiting through COVID delays, government caps, and a queuing system that tested everyone's patience, their Permanent Residency was finally granted earlier this year.

Long awaited, but absolutely worth it.

Next stop...Australian citizenship. We couldn't be happier for them and their family.

Weekly invitations begin: 20 August 2026

📊 The numbers:
Total: 2050 nomination places
Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated): 1250
Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional): 800

⚠️ Important information
1. Priority attributes and scoring have changed
2. Existing ROIs may need to be reviewed and resubmitted
3. No invitations are planned for the subclass 491 overseas invitation-only pathway
