Press Release

Adjunct Professor Owen HARRIS obtains Specialist Status

TranQuill’s Owen HARRIS has achieved accredited specialist status with the Law Society of NSW in Immigration Law.
Specialist Accreditation is a structured peer to peer assessment process enabling legal practitioners to be recognised for their expertise. Each year (only every two years for the rarer immigration law candidates) the Law Society runs the accreditation program for a select number of areas of law. The program consists of meticulous assessments on both legal knowledge and its application in practice. For accreditation to be conferred the candidate must pass all assessments.
To retain their accreditation specialists must demonstrate their commitment to their accreditation through their work and by undertaking additional professional development in their area of accreditation.
Specialist Accreditation Chair, Richard Harvey, said:
“Specialist Accreditation is held by less than 6% of the profession here in New South Wales. We are proud that Specialists Accreditation is such a rigorous process and getting accredited is just the start. When a specialist retains their accreditation year on year their clients know the value of the advice they receive.”
Owen said of the accreditation:
“I am proud (and relieved!) to have (finally) achieved Specialist Accreditation status. This was six years of hard work. Specialist Accreditation is a recognised mark of expertise for the public and the profession. Importantly for me, this is a peer reviewed process, like gaining silk for barristers, so to be judged by my peers to have attained this status means a lot to me. ”

Act for Peace Ration Challenge dinner for the TranQuill team - jazzing up plain rice with the addition of red beans. At this point in the challenge it's getting gritty and tough. The realisation that 'real' refugees can't see an end to the same, basic food day in and day night hits home. Can't give up now though.
