Australia Announces Next Subclass 189 Invitation Round on 4 June 2026

The Australian Department of Home Affairs has officially announced that the next invitation round for the Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) will take place on 4 June 2026. Applicants who have submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect are strongly advised to review and update their profiles before the round is conducted.

According to the official statement from the Department of Home Affairs:

“The next invitation round for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) visa will be held on 4 June 2026. Please ensure your Expression of Interest is up to date and that all the information you have provided is accurate.”

The announcement is significant for skilled migration applicants worldwide, especially candidates with competitive points scores and occupations currently in demand in Australia. Migration experts suggest that this round could provide strong opportunities for applicants in healthcare, engineering, trades, education, and selected professional occupations.

Important Actions for Applicants Before 4 June 2026

Applicants are encouraged to:

Update English test results if renewed recently
Verify skills assessment validity
Update employment experience and partner details
Ensure claimed points are supported by valid evidence
Check passport and personal information accuracy

The Department assesses invitations based on the exact information available in the EOI at the time of the invitation round. Incorrect or outdated details may affect eligibility or visa outcomes.

What is the Subclass 189 Visa?

The Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent residency visa that allows skilled workers to live and work anywhere in Australia without requiring employer sponsorship or state nomination. Invitations are issued through Australia’s SkillSelect system based on points ranking and occupation demand.

BREAKING NEWS: NSW CLOSES SUBCLASS 190 INVITATIONS FOR 2025-26 PROGRAM YEAR!

A major update has just shaken Australia’s skilled migration landscape, bringing both excitement and urgency for thousands of visa hopefuls worldwide.

The Government of New South Wales (NSW) has officially announced that it has now invited enough Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to fully utilize its nomination allocation for the highly sought-after Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) for the current 2025-26 migration program year.

NO MORE NSW 190 INVITATIONS UNTIL 2026-27

In a significant development, NSW confirmed that no further invitations will be issued for the Subclass 190 visa until a fresh nomination allocation is granted by the Australian Government for the upcoming 2026-27 program year.

This marks the temporary closure of one of Australia’s most competitive and popular state nomination pathways, leaving many prospective applicants anxiously waiting for the next migration cycle.

NSW also extended its congratulations to all successful applicants who secured invitations under the current allocation.
SUBCLASS 491 PATHWAY 2 STILL OPEN — HOPE REMAINS!

While the Subclass 190 stream has effectively reached its limit, there is still positive news for skilled migrants aiming for Australia.

NSW has confirmed that an invitation round for the Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491) – Pathway 2 was conducted last week, and importantly:

NSW WILL CONTINUE INVITING EOIs FOR SUBCLASS 491

The state government announced that invitations for the Subclass 491 visa under Pathway 2 will continue until the nomination allocation is fully exhausted.

This means skilled workers still have an active opportunity to secure NSW nomination through regional migration pathways, making the 491 visa one of the hottest remaining options for applicants in the current migration year.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR APPLICANTS
Subclass 190 applicants who have not yet received an invitation may now need to wait for the 2026-27 program year.
The competition for future NSW allocations is expected to become even more intense.
Subclass 491 Pathway 2 has now become a critical alternative for many skilled migrants seeking Australian permanent residency pathways.

Goodwill Consult' Migration Agent Er. Nabin Shahi (MARN 0957944) is advising applicants to:

Keep EOIs updated
Maximize points wherever possible
Monitor NSW announcements closely
Consider regional pathways strategically

Australia’s skilled migration race is clearly heating up — and NSW has officially entered a new phase for the 2025-26 migration season.

Urgent News. Victoria has officially closed its 2025–26 State Nominated Skilled Visa Program to new Registrations of Interest (ROIs) as of 28 April 2026, following overwhelming demand and limited nomination places.

Authorities confirmed that while no new ROIs will be accepted, all previously submitted applications will continue to be assessed for the remaining nomination spots in the current program year.

Applicants are advised that withdrawing an existing ROI will prevent them from submitting a new one until the 2026–27 program opens, with further details expected to be announced in due course.

‘Emerging integrity issues’: Home Affairs tightens visa scrutiny for India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
Australia has quietly launched a crackdown on international students from several countries after a “concerning” rise in fraudulent applications.

International students from India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan will face heightened visa scrutiny after the federal government quietly moved the South Asian nations into the highest-risk category on Thursday citing “emerging integrity issues”.
