National Reconciliation Week 2025 runs from 27 May - 3 June. This year’s theme is ‘Bridging Now to Next.’

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

At GRIT Legal, we work on Eastern Maar and Wadawurrung Country. During this week in particular, we are reflecting on the importance of ongoing education and celebration of First Nations histories and cultures.

To celebrate the end of 2024, we chose to have a Christmas party with a difference, by deepening our understanding of the First Nations people of our local region – the Gunditjmara people.

We had the privilege of participating in an insightful, moving, and informative cultural tour of Tae Rak (Lake Condah).

The tour concluded with a discussion on the life cycle of eels - an important food source for the Gunditjmara people, who sustainably farmed them at Tae Rak using intricate systems of eel traps.

We also enjoyed lunch at the Bush Tucker Café – including an eel tasting plate!

This Reconciliation Week, we’re reminded that Reconciliation is a journey filled with opportunities to learn and grow together.

We invite you to reflect on the land you live on and the First Nations people who have cared for it since time immemorial.

Victorian workers can now access free mental health support…

The Victorian Government has officially launched a Worker Mental Health Support Helpline.

This is an important initiative - work-related mental injuries currently make up about 18% of all workers compensation claims in Victoria.

Eligible workers can use the confidential service to seek support for any issues impacting their mental wellbeing.

“Pass in Peace was inspired by the wonderful work of Warrnambool and District Community Hospice. Hospice volunteers demonstrate the huge difference that a human touch can make in how we experience death and the impact that our passing has on loved ones. We believe that the work Hospice does is deeply meaningful and important. Profits from Pass in Peace will be used to support the work of Hospice and we encourage everyone to consider becoming a volunteer.

By developing Pass in Peace, and supporting the work of Hospice, we hope to dramatically improve how Victorian families plan for, and experience, the final stage of life.”
