Today, I want to recognise someone who is not just an exceptional lawyer or a committed canyoneer, but also someone who gives her time, leadership, and heart in service of others.
For more than seven years, Rebecca Hatcher-Anderson has served as a Captain and Commanding Officer with the Australian Army Cadets, 101 ACU Kilcoy, mentoring and shaping young people through discipline, leadership, and service.
Today, she presented across three ANZAC Day services, helping honour the generations who have served before us and ensuring the values of courage, duty, and sacrifice continue to be carried forward.
ANZAC Day isn’t just about the past, it’s about the people who quietly live those values every day.
Lest we forget.

Big shoutout and thank you to our friend Row at Better Promo who supply all our merchandise. And when people keep stealing our merch, you know it’s good 😄
We’ve just had to reorder another 50 golf umbrellas because they are absolute hot property in FNQ. We love supporting local and trust Better Promo for all our printing in and around Cairns.
Five stars from us ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After a hard‑fought 3‑day District Court trial, Rebecca secured a not guilty verdict for a man who had been wrongfully accused of a serious assault.
This outcome is a powerful reminder of the importance of meticulous preparation, fearless advocacy, and standing up for the presumption of innocence.
Well done, Rebecca. An exceptional result and a credit to the profession.

The law has a long memory. Sometimes so do people.

Today I was approached by one of my first clients. This morning our paths crossed unexpectedly. We hadn’t spoken since the case ended and we walked out of the court room. What followed was one of those rare conversations that reminds you why you do this job. He said:

“I really want to say thank you very much for that case, it saved me.”

He spoke about the years that followed. About raising his children after recovering them from what was described as one of the worst alienation cases the judge had ever seen. He thanked me because his child is now attending the most elite university in England and the trajectory of his life changed following that court case.

He said:

"After going through so many solicitors, nobody listened. The way you conducted yourself was so professional and so respectful through the whole process. I’ve never had anyone who listened to a client like you did”

He talked about standing firm when it mattered most, not out of anger or retaliation, but for his children:

“It was all about the kids… their right to see me as their father. No matter how much she hated me, the kids had that right.”

And this, in particular, struck a chord:

“People say the courts are biased. They’re not. You’ve just got to go in, tell the truth, and fight with all your heart.”

As lawyers, we often finish a case and never hear what happens next. Lives keep moving quietly in the background. Today was a reminder that the work echoes far beyond the courtroom, sometimes a decade later.

Grateful for the conversation. Grateful for the trust. And grateful for the reminder of why advocacy matters.

Our Year 11 Legal Studies students were fortunate to welcome Mr Rowan King from RK Law, who shared his professional insights into the Australian legal system.

Drawing on his experience in both criminal prosecution and defence, Mr King provided students with a real-world perspective on how the law operates beyond the classroom. He also spoke about his important work in domestic violence advocacy, offering valuable insight into how the legal profession supports and protects vulnerable members of the community.

Opportunities like this allow our students to make meaningful connections between their learning and real-world legal practice.

A big thank you to Mr Rowan King for sharing his time and expertise. It was an inspiring and informative experience for our students.

“His lawyer, Rebecca Hatcher-Anderson, spoke on his behalf. She told the court her client had a defective exhaust and realised how dangerous his actions were as soon as he was approached by police.”

An exhaust modification could have caused an explosion. FULL STORY 👉 https://bit.ly/47C26ir

This week, Rebecca Hatcher-Anderson is in the Emerald District Court, working alongside Brisbane heavyweight barrister Axel Beard, fighting for a client’s future in a serious matter.
Big cases. Regional courts. No shortcuts. No compromise. Just serious advocacy where it matters most.
