In these very hard times that we live in, the exemptions to travel to and from Australia are getting harder and more complicated as we speak, but with help and guidance IT IS POSSIBLE.
We were very saddened to see on ‘A Current Affair’ last week that Juliet Wilson’s husband, a Canadian Citizen, was refused the exemption to travel to Australia on multiple occasions to be with his wife, an Australian Citizen....who is currently fighting stage three breast cancer! You would think that on compelling grounds of Juliet’s health concerns, showing evidence of their 5 year relationship and a marriage certificate, that it would be enough of a reason to approve his application. Unfortunately he has been denied 4 times and he is now trying for a 5th!
When you compare Juliet’s case to one of ours, it makes you think that there are double standards going on, a different set of rules being applied for very similar cases, which shouldn’t be happening.
Piers Murdock, one of our clients, who’s partner was approved an exemption to travel to Australia in late October 2020. Their first two attempts were rejected, only to then come to us for help and were immediately approved by showing extensive proof of their de facto relationship, much like you would for a permanent partner visa.
Juliet should not have to fight her cancer battle alone without her husband by her side! Like many others who are also denied the chance to be with their loved ones.
We hope that Juliet and her partner have a better outcome and are treated with the same result that we were able to get for our client.
