IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CLIENTS – Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws.
From 1 July 2026, the AML/CTF Laws introduced by the Australian Government will change the way Solicitors, Accountants, Real Estate Agents and other industries across Australia practice.
For our firm, these changes affect certain areas of legal practice known as "designated services" — including property and business transactions, overseas funds transfers, share sales, and company or trust formation.
What does this mean for you?
Before we can commence work on any matter falling within these categories, we are required by law to verify your identity and collect certain personal information — which may include details not previously required in your matters.
This is not a significant change to how we already practice, however, will involve our office seeking additional information from you that may not have previously been provided.
The collection of this additional information is a legal obligation that applies to all Australian Solicitors.
AUSTRAC and the Queensland Law Society have both published helpful client information sheets explaining these new laws and can be provided upon request — please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions - 07 5353 5275 or [email protected]
