Legal fees don’t have to be a mystery.

Before signing anything, make sure you understand how fees are calculated, what costs you may be responsible for, what disbursements could apply and what your costs agreement actually says.

And if something doesn’t make sense? Ask.

Questions about legal costs are completely reasonable. You should feel comfortable understanding what you’re agreeing to before you proceed.

Costs agreements aren't exactly everyday reading, and if you're seeing one for the first time, some of the terminology may be unfamiliar 🔷

Before entering into an agreement with a lawyer, take the time to understand how costs are calculated, what other expenses may apply, when costs could become payable and what the agreement means for you.

And if something isn't clear? Ask.

You shouldn't feel uncomfortable asking your lawyer to explain a term, go over something again or put it into plain English. Understanding what you're agreeing to is an important part of making an informed decision.
