Victoria will now use the VPT to rank all Registrations of Interest (ROIs) for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

Unlike the SkillSelect points test, there is no fixed pass mark! Invitations go to the highest-scoring candidates based on these 7 weighted factors:

✅ Years of Experience in your Nominated Occupation
✅ Educational Qualification (Up to PhD level)
✅ Occupation Skill Level

The Department of Home Affairs has announced that the next invitation round for the Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa will be held on 15 October 2026.

If you have an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect, now is the time to check it:

✅ Make sure your EOI is up to date
✅ Review the points you have claimed and confirm you can support them with evidence
✅ Check that all the information you have provided is accurate

Invitations are issued based on the details in your EOI at the time of the round, so any updates need to be made before 15 October.

📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE: New Rules from 2 October 2026 🇦🇺🎓
The Australian Government has introduced significant changes to Student Visa (Subclass 500) and Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) applications.
🔴 Key Changes:
🔹 Onshore Student Visa Applications
Most temporary visa holders in Australia can no longer apply for a Student Visa or Student Guardian Visa while in Australia, unless an exemption applies.
🔹 Restrictions on Including Family Members
New Student Visa applicants can generally no longer include their partners or dependent children in their applications, unless they meet specific exemption criteria.
🔹 No Subsequent Entrant Applications
Current Student Visa holders can no longer add family members after their visa has been granted.
🔹 Exemptions Apply
Certain students, including eligible PhD students, DFAT or Defence-sponsored students, and some eligible scholarship holders, may qualify for exemptions.
🔹 Existing Applications
Applications lodged before 2 October 2026 will continue to be assessed under the rules that applied at the time of lodgement.
