If you are a student from Papua New Guinea studying in Australia, there is a structured pathway that may lead all the way to permanent residence, and it starts with your student visa. 🌏

Under current legislation, PNG nationals may be eligible for a reduced visa application charge on the Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa, subject to meeting Department requirements. This is a meaningful concession that can make the transition from study to work more accessible. Please verify current fees at https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0XncS0, as amounts are subject to change.

Once you have Australian work experience on your 485, you may be eligible to pursue permanent residence through employer sponsorship (Subclass 186), state or territory nomination (Subclass 190 or 491), or even the Pacific Engagement visa (Subclass 192), depending on individual circumstances.

With 129,590 onshore places in the 2026-27 migration programme, there has never been a better time to understand where you stand.

🚨 IMPORTANT update for anyone with a student visa refusal under review at the ART.

From Monday 1 June 2026, most student visa refusal reviews will be decided on the papers, not at a hearing.

What this means:
The ART will rely mainly on your written submissions and evidence
You will have 28 days to respond to certain invitations from the Tribunal
You will have 14 days to respond to other invitations
Missing deadlines could see your review dismissed

The opportunity to explain things verbally at a hearing has largely gone. Strong, well-prepared written submissions matter more than ever.

If you or a family member is currently in an ART student visa refusal review, this is the time to act. Have your submissions, enrolment evidence, and supporting documents ready before 1 June.

Talk to us at www.migrationstar.com.au or call 07 3519 5619. MARA No. 1797395.

Families across Australia will be pleased to hear this update. Parent visa applications can now be lodged online.

From 17 April 2026, all parent visa classes are available for online lodgement through the Department of Home Affairs' ImmiAccount system. Previously, many parent visa applications required paper-based lodgement, which created additional complexity and delays for families. The shift to online lodgement brings parent visas in line with most other visa classes and makes the process more streamlined for applicants and their representatives.

If you have a parent overseas who has been waiting for the right time to explore their options, or if you are a parent wanting to be closer to your family in Australia, this change removes one of the practical barriers that made the process more difficult.

It is important to remember that eligibility for parent visas depends on individual circumstances, including balance of family tests, sponsorship requirements, and financial considerations. Speaking with a registered migration agent is the best way to understand your specific situation.

Has this update changed your thinking about a parent visa application? Or do you have questions about what the online process looks like? We would love to help. πŸ‘‡

Great news for Filipino trade workers looking toward Australia. There is a well-defined pathway that starts with your TESDA qualifications and can lead all the way to permanent residency.

Here is how it generally works: your TESDA certification is assessed through Trades Recognition Australia (TRA), which is the Australian body responsible for evaluating overseas trade qualifications. Once skills recognition is achieved, you may be eligible to be sponsored for a Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa by an Australian employer. From there, many trade workers go on to apply for permanent residence.

The 2026-27 Federal Budget included an $85.2 million investment to support skilled migration, which signals strong demand for qualified tradespeople. Trades such as electrical, plumbing, construction, and automotive are among those commonly sought by Australian employers.

Each person's situation is different, and eligibility at every stage depends on individual circumstances and meeting Department requirements. Our team can help you understand where you stand and what to do next.

Attention employers: a key migration deadline is approaching, and it is worth acting on now rather than later.

From 1 July 2026, the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) for employer-sponsored visas rises from $76,515 to $79,499. This threshold applies to nominations under the Temporary Skills Shortage visa (subclass 482) and related pathways. Any nomination lodged on or after 1 July 2026 must meet the new, higher threshold; nominations that fall short will not be approved by the Department.

With just 43 days to go from the date of this post, employers who have sponsored workers in the pipeline, or who are planning to lodge nominations before the change, should be reviewing their position now. It is always a good idea to speak with a registered migration agent to make sure your nomination is structured correctly and timed appropriately for your circumstances.

Are you an employer with a sponsored worker nomination in progress? Have you reviewed your salary position ahead of 1 July?

Exciting news for Papua New Guinean nationals currently studying or living in Australia. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬

A new legislative instrument (F2026L00163) has introduced a reduced visa application charge for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) for PNG passport holders. On top of that, the Federal Budget 2026-27 has confirmed that 70% of migration places will be prioritised for onshore applicants β€” meaning people already in Australia are well-positioned to benefit.

If you are a PNG national who has recently completed an Australian study or qualifications, you may be eligible for this pathway, subject to meeting all Department requirements. The concession on application fees can make a meaningful practical difference β€” we recommend verifying current 485 fees at https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0TrkM0 for the most up-to-date figures.

Every situation is different, so personalised registered advice is always the right starting point.

Great news for Filipino trade workers considering Australia as their next step. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡

The Federal Budget 2026-27 has allocated $85.2 million to modernise Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) β€” the body responsible for assessing overseas trade qualifications for Australian skilled migration purposes. For workers who have completed TESDA qualifications or have hands-on trade experience in the Philippines, this investment is intended to make the assessment process faster and more accessible.

Migration Star has a unique connection to this community. Our team has spent two years working directly with Filipino skilled workers through our presence at the Mall of Asia in Manila, building deep familiarity with the TESDA-to-TRA pathway and the practical steps involved.

If you or someone you know is a Filipino tradesperson exploring Australian migration, subject to meeting all eligibility requirements, there may be a real opportunity worth discussing.

The Federal Budget 2026-27 has landed, and there is quite a bit in it that matters for people navigating Australian migration pathways right now. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

The Government has confirmed 129,590 onshore migration places for the programme year, plus an $85.2 million investment in TRA skills assessment modernisation. There is also a clear signal around points test reform, a salary threshold increase taking effect on 1 July 2026, and a proposed public sponsor register β€” all of which may affect applicants and employers depending on their circumstances.

These are policy-level changes, and how they apply to your specific situation will depend on your individual visa pathway. We always recommend getting registered advice before making any decisions.

Migration Star is building something different for Papua New Guinea.

As a Brisbane-based registered migration agent, I have seen that PNG nationals are underserved in the Australian migration market. There is no shortage of visa pathways available to PNG nationals, from the reduced 485 graduate visa application charge under the Pacific
concession, to the Pacific Engagement Visa (Subclass 192), to skilled migration through the 189, 190, and 491 pathways, to employer-sponsored routes under the 482 visa.

What has been missing is a dedicated service that understands these pathways specifically for PNG nationals and connects PNG-based prospective migrants with professional, regulated migration advice in Australia.

That is what Migration Star is building. Through our referral partnership, we are creating a direct pathway for PNG nationals to access specialist migration guidance, from initial assessment through to visa lodgement and beyond.

If you are a PNG national considering study, work, or permanent migration to Australia, Migration Star can help you understand which pathway fits your circumstances.

For current fees on the 485 graduate visa, check the Department's visa pricing estimator at https://ap1.hubs.ly/y0R_NG0. PNG passport holders have access to a reduced application charge.

The 2025–26 Pacific Engagement Visa ballot has closed, and the next ballot dates have not been announced yet. Stay connected with Migration Star so you are notified when the next PEV ballot opens.
