Today we’re celebrating 10 years of Brittany Davies-Ward at JHK Legal!

As our Accounts Manager, Brittany has been a cornerstone of the firm throughout a decade of growth. Her loyalty, care and tireless work have helped make JHK what it is today, and it’s hard to overstate just how much she means to our team.

From billing and recoveries to projects, tax payments and everything in between, Brittany keeps us on the straight and narrow. Nothing is ever too big an ask, and she approaches it all with kindness and professionalism.

She even handles the directors’ “urgent” credit card top-up requests with impressive patience.

Brittany, so much of what you do happens behind the scenes, but it never goes unnoticed. Thank you for your calm head, your commitment and the countless ways you look after the business and the people in it. The firm wouldn’t be the same without you.

Today we’re celebrating another significant milestone at JHK Legal, with Patrick Hanrahan marking 15 years with the firm.

Pat was only the second employee to join JHK Legal, following closely behind Sarah Jones, and has played an enormous role in shaping the business we are today.

After beginning his career with us in Brisbane, Pat made the move to Sydney at just 24 years of age to establish and lead JHK Legal Sydney. It was a big responsibility for someone so early in their career, but he embraced the challenge and has never looked back.

Over the past 15 years, Pat has poured everything into JHK Legal. His commitment to the firm, our clients and our people has been unwavering, and he has been instrumental in building our Sydney presence into what it is today.

Anyone who has worked with Pat knows that relationships are his greatest strength. He has an incredible ability to build trust, genuinely connect with people and create long-term partnerships that have been invaluable to both our clients and our firm. And if there’s a long lunch or a game of golf to be had in the name of relationship building, you can be fairly confident Pat won’t be too far away.

Pat, thank you for your loyalty, leadership and the countless hours you’ve invested in JHK Legal over the past 15 years. We’re incredibly grateful for everything you’ve contributed and look forward to what the years ahead have in store.

Over the past 18 months, the Australian Tax Office (ATO) has begun its intensified efforts in recouping many tax debts and outstanding taxation and superannuation obligations from small businesses, previously provided a limited-time amnesty.

As at 2024, unpaid taxation liabilities currently accounts for $33 billion, therefore the ATO is now actively pursuing debt recovery interests - with a new surge of Director Penalty Notices (DPNs) being issued.

With an increased ATO mandate, it is critical for business owners to understand the implications of DPNs and the potential options available to them, where one has been issued.

This April marks the 10 Year Anniversary for our National Business Development Manager, Nick Cervetto. Over the course of the last decade, Nick has shown continuous commitment to building mutually beneficial and lasting relationships among our JHK community, clients, colleagues, and network of industry contacts.

Throughout his time with our firm, he has played a key part in the strategic direction of the practice - helping build our service practice-set and value to our growing network.

Today, we bid a fond farewell to a true legal luminary and one of the founders of our firm, JHK Legal – the incomparable Rhonda King!

With a career spanning over four decades, Rhonda has been a trailblazer in the legal profession, practicing law since the 1980’s. Her dedication and passion for the law have left an indelible mark on our firm and the legal community as a whole.

A Partner of several firms before founding JHK Legal with her Husband Rick, Rhonda has always prioritized client service above all else. Her mantra, passed on to our juniors, echoes in the corridors of our firm: "Never sit on the fence; clients are paying for advice, and that's precisely what we should give them."

Rhonda's resilience and strength have been exemplified in her battle against cancer throughout her career – not once, but twice. Her courage, humility, and unwavering commitment to her work and colleagues inspired us all. True to her nature, she never sought a fuss or special treatment, preferring to focus on the task at hand.

Beyond her individual achievements, Rhonda leaves behind a legacy of mentorship. Countless young lawyers have had the privilege of learning under her tutelage, and she has commanded enormous respect in the legal world. Her impact on the next generation of legal minds is immeasurable.
