RAILS - Refugee and Immigration Legal Service

RAILS - Refugee and Immigration Legal Service RAILS is an independent community legal centre in QLD that provides free immigration legal advice.

RAILS provides free legal advice and assistance and community education to disadvantaged people. RAILS advocates in cases of most need before the Department of of Home Affairs, review tribunals and, on occasions, to judicial review. The Service has a demand that far exceeds its resources and takes on only those highest priority cases with most merit. Since 1980, RAILS has assisted thousands of re

fugees, asylum seekers and migrants coming from countries suffering from the major political humanitarian crises of our times. RAILS works closely with other support organizations to provide a network of support for the most vulnerable clients.

Meet RAILS' long term Day Legal Volunteer, Xavier, who has shared a testimonial of his experience volunteering with RAILS. Thank you, Xavier for your ongoing commitment and contribution to RAILS.

"I have been volunteering with RAILS since March 2025, and it has been a very meaningful experience for me. From the beginning, I have felt welcomed and supported by all the staff as well as the other volunteers. Volunteering at RAILS has given me the opportunity to contribute to an organisation whose work has real purpose and impact in people's lives. It has also helped me grow personally and professionally by being around people who are committed, compassionate, and incredibly generous with their time. I am grateful to be part of RAILS and to play a small role in supporting the important work this organisation does." Xavier, Day Legal Volunteer.

A huge thank you to the team at Good Tunesfor hosting a charity Bush Dance for RAILS over the weekend! We’re so grateful to the dance callers and musicians who generously donated their time to make the night such a success. It was a fantastic evening of fun, music, and community spirit.

We’d also like to thank the team at The Montague Hotel in West End for generously donating a voucher to our raffle.

Support like this helps make community events possible and directly supports our work providing free legal assistance to people seeking safety in Australia.

We’re incredibly grateful to the local businesses and community members who continue to show up for our community in such meaningful ways.

Thank you again for your generosity and support and thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event.

A huge thank you to Griffith Law School for coming on board as a Bronze Sponsor for our Flavour of Hope event!

Griffith has long been a friend to RAILS, their students volunteer with us, working on real cases and seeing firsthand the difference that access to legal help makes for refugees and people seeking asylum. We love having them in our corner.

Founded on a deep commitment to social justice, they are exactly the kind of partner we are proud to stand alongside.

Thank you, Griffith and we look forward to seeing you at Flavour of Hope!
