King & Company Solicitors were proud to once again sponsor the LGMA Women in Local Government Conference, which took place in Brisbane this week. With International Women’s Day fast approaching, it was a wonderful opportunity for our Firm’s attendees to sit alongside women from councils across Queensland to share knowledge, exchange ideas and hear powerful stories from inspiring women as they shared their leadership journeys.

Thanks to LGMA for organising an amazing two days of growth, networking and empowerment!

WHO WERE THOSE MASKED MEN AND WOMEN

King & Company staff brushed off tuxes and ballgowns to join the Somerset community once again for the annual Somerset Regional Council Mayoral Gala Charity Ball in Esk, west of Brisbane. King & Company are regular, major sponsors of this annual fundraiser, held this year on 13 September. Around 260 folk turned out for the glittering event which featured entertainment by Aria Award-winner Karise Eden and performances by the Con Artists Jazz Orchestra from the Griffith University Conservatorium of Music. Funds raised by the live and silent auctions and raffles are still being tallied.

Last week King & Company hosted QLS educator Stephanie Cowie for our annual RUOK? Day event. Stephanie spoke to staff about resilience in the legal workplace. Her great, food-for-thought talk was followed by food of a different sort, with King & Company staff putting on a sumptuous spread for morning tea. This year’s theme for RUOK? Day is “Ask RUOK? Any Day!” As the good folk behind RUOK? Day reminds us, “You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.” The four steps they encourage are: Ask RUOK? Listen. Encourage action. Check in.

King & Company are delighted to have joined the army of companies around Australia committed to reconciliation. Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, which was given final approval by Reconciliation Australia in February, came into effect on 1 March and remains extant until August 2026. Decorated with images from the fabulous, bespoke mural in our Level 7 lobby, designed and painted by former AFL star and proud Kooma/Kunja man, Rhan Hooper, you can check out our RAP on our website.

https://www.kingandcompany.com.au/about-us-reconciliation-action-plan.html

Among the firm’s commitments stated in the RAP are the promotion of reconciliation and positive race relations, raising awareness of the need for reconciliation through our sphere of influence, building or enhancing our firm’s relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and events and undertaking the same within our firm with the aim of increasing staff understanding of First Nation cultures, histories and rights through cultural learning.

There is some very fancy footwear on display in the King & Company office as we celebrate Pride Month and show our support for the LGBTQIA+ community via the Rainbow Shoelace Project.

This small but powerful symbol of solidarity serves as an important reminder that visibility matters and knowing that you’re not alone can change everything.

On 29 May 2025, King & Company was pleased to present at the Local Authorities Revenue Management Association of Queensland (LARMAQ) training day held in Brisbane. It was a valuable and worthwhile opportunity to speak to officers from councils throughout Queensland about sale of land for overdue rates or charges, levying rates and rating objections.
