Our Director, Kristy Bell, attended the Applied Research in Crime and Justice Conference 2026 to present alongside QSAC Director April Chrzanowski in her capacity as Deputy Chair of the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council.

April and Kristy’s presentation, A Tangled Web of Reform: A Multi-Method Evaluation of Domestic Violence Sentencing Reforms, focused on the Council’s latest terms of reference and the challenges of evaluating the impact of significant sentencing reforms in this area.

The conference was a great opportunity to hear from researchers, practitioners and policymakers who are passionate about improving our criminal justice system in a meaningful way. Such an interesting and engaging conference!

Having previously been part of our team as a law clerk, Shantelle returns now as a fully qualified solicitor with a wealth of expertise, having worked exclusively in criminal law since 2017. Shantelle has built a reputation for meticulous file preparation, attention to detail and an empathetic, client-focused approach to the law.

With a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, Shantelle has a detailed understanding of the legal system and court processes at all levels. This morning our Director, Kristy Bell had the pleasure of presenting to Year 11 and Year 12 Legal Studies classes from her former high school, in her capacity as Deputy Chair of the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council, alongside fellow members of the Council - April Chrzanowski (Director) and Chris Anderson (Council member) and The Honourable Deb Frecklington MP GAICD, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity.

Kristy, Chris and the Attorney took students through a Judge For Yourself session, where they had the opportunity to sit in the shoes of a District Court judge for the morning.

A huge thank-you to the QSAC Secretariat and the lovely staff from Kingaroy SHS for making it happen. It was an absolute pleasure!
