Buying property in Australia? It’s worth knowing what information you may be asked to provide.
Since 1 July 2026, certain real estate services have been covered by Australia’s Anti-Money Laundering & Counter-Terrorism Financing framework.
For buyers, this can mean additional due diligence during a property transaction, including identity verification and, depending on the circumstances, further information about ownership structures or the source of funds and wealth.
Importantly, not every buyer will face the same checks. Requirements can depend on the customer and the circumstances of the transaction.
