Work Experience 482 Visa

The Department of Home Affairs has announced the in November 2024 the minimum work experience requirement to apply for an Employer Sponsored Temporary 482 (or its replacement, the Skills in Demand Visa)

AAT to be Abolished

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal will cease on 14 October 2024. The AAT will be replaced by the Australian Review Tribunal at this time and all current matters before the AAT with transfer to the ART.

New Restrictions on Applying for Student Visas Onshore come into effect.

Alongside this, Business Visa (subclass 188) are no longer available as it's being replaced by the National Innovation Visa and as was announced in 2023, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal will be replaced with the Administrative Review Tribunal.

CHANGES TO THE 482 PROGRAM – CHANGING EMPLOYERS

From 1 July 2024 changes to condition 8107, 8607 and 8608 have been implemented.

From 1 July 2024 holders of 482 or 494 visas who lose or leave their employment will have 180 days to find a new sponsor.

Alongside these changes, there is a Visa Application Fee Increase as of the 1 July 2024.

Employer Sponsorship Changes and Pathways to PR.

As we have published in previously, the employer sponsored migration program will be amended in the second half of 2024 with the introduction of the Skills in Demand visa which will replace the current 482 program.

Those that currently hold 482 visas should be able to progress and transition to permanent residency at the end of their 482 visa.

As we announced early last year the Department has confirmed that the current TSS program will be replaced with a three tier Skills in Demand Visa in 2024.

Three Tiered System

The Skills in Demand Visa consists of three distinct pathways based on annual earnings and occupation:

Tier 1 – Specialist Skills Pathway
Tier 2 – Core Skills Pathway
Tier 3 – Essential Skills Pathway
