From 2 October 2026, new rules have come into effect for Student visa (subclass 500) and Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) applications.

If you already hold a Student visa and want to apply for another one while in Australia, you may now need to apply from outside Australia, unless you fall within one of the specific exemptions.

In most cases, Student visa applicants can no longer include their partner or dependent children in the application. The ability for family members to join later as subsequent entrants is also restricted.
