Had a bad experience with a business and want to warn other people? You can, but be careful with how you word it.

There’s a difference between sharing your experience or honest opinion based on facts and evidence, and making allegations that someone is a “scammer” or “fraudster”.

Those words can take your post into defamation territory pretty quickly.

So yes, share your experience. Just make sure what you’re saying can be backed up.

And maybe think twice before hitting post on that angry Google review 👀

Putting “non-refundable deposit” in your contract doesn’t automatically mean you get to keep the money 👀

Whether you can retain a deposit can depend on what goods or services you’ve actually provided, as well as your obligations under Australian Consumer Law.

A good reminder that the wording in your contracts needs to do more than just sound protective.
