Mum & Dad's Bank Has Entered the Chat

POV:

Your parents just transferred you $150,000 to help buy your first home.

You: "Thanks Mum ❤️"

Your parents: "No worries, just pay us back when you can."

Everyone: 😌

Three years later...

💔 Relationship breakdown
💸 Repayments never happened
🏠 Property value doubled
⚖️ Family argument unlocked

The reality?

If Mum and Dad are helping with a home deposit, it's worth documenting:

✔ Is it a gift or a loan?
✔ When is it repayable?
✔ What happens if the relationship ends?
✔ Can the money be secured against the property?

A simple legal agreement today can prevent a very expensive family dispute tomorrow.

Because "we'll sort it out later" is not a legal strategy.

📩 DM "MUM & DAD" with your email if you'd like information about documenting family loans and protecting family wealth.

If you died tomorrow without a Will — do you know what Victorian law would actually do with everything you own?

Most people assume their partner gets everything. Or that their family will sort it out.
In Victoria, that's not how it works.
When there's no Will, the Administration and Probate Act 1958 (Vic) kicks in. A legal formula — not your wishes — decides who gets your home, your savings, your super, everything.
And the results often shock families.
Swipe through to see exactly how Victorian intestacy law plays out.

The uncomfortable truth? A Will is one of the simplest legal documents to put in place — and one of the most important things you'll ever do for the people you love.

Have questions about getting started? Go to ellisonwhytelaw.com.au and book in for an initial consult today.

This is general information only and does not constitute legal advice. It applies to Victorian law and your personal circumstances may differ.
Please seek advice specific to your situation from a qualified Victorian solicitor.

Not to be dramatic… but it is.

No will =
– You don’t decide who gets what
– You don’t control anything
– Your family is left figuring it out under pressure

It takes less time to sort this than you think.

Over the next 20 years, trillions of dollars will pass between generations in Australia (between 3.5 and 5.9 trillion dollars).

Most families in Victoria are not prepared.

What affluent families are doing differently:
– Structuring assets through trusts (not just personal ownership)
– Creating staged inheritance (not lump sums at 18 or 21)
– Embedding asset protection into family bloodlines
– Aligning estate plans with business succession and SMSFs

This is no longer “end of life planning.”
This is strategic wealth architecture.

At Ellison-Whyte Law, we work with families who think in decades — not documents.

Work in the construction industry?

You show up every day and build for everyone else.
But if something happened to you… would your own family be protected?

For young families, it’s not about how much you’ve got — it’s about having a plan in place so:
– Your kids are cared for by the right people
– Your partner isn’t left dealing with legal stress
– Your hard work actually supports your family when it matters most

At Ellison-Whyte Law, we help you lock it in properly — simple, clear, done right.
