The Australian Government has signalled significant migration reforms, with Immigration Minister Tony Burke outlining proposed measures that could reshape Australia's migration system.
Key proposed changes include:
🔹 Possible restrictions on onshore family visa applications – Family members (such as partners, children and parents) who enter Australia on temporary visas may no longer be able to lodge certain family visa applications while in Australia.
🔹 Changes to Bridging Visa access – If these reforms are introduced, some applicants may need to remain offshore while their visa is processed instead of accessing a Bridging Visa in Australia.
🔹 A focus on reducing migration numbers and processing backlogs – The proposed reforms aim to strengthen the integrity of the migration program and better manage Australia's migration system.
