HSC season, and a lot of Year 12 families are about to cross a line nobody warns them about.

At 18 you can no longer access their medical records, make decisions on their behalf in an emergency, or speak to their university about their enrolment without their say-so — no matter how much of the fee you're paying.

The fix is not complicated. It's a conversation, and sometimes a document. It takes an afternoon and it matters most on the day you hoped would never come.

You clear the gutters every October. When did you last look at your will? ⛈️

Storm season is the one time of year Australians are genuinely good at preparation. We trim the branches, check the insurance, charge the torch, move the trampoline.

Then we go back inside to a will drafted before two of the grandkids existed, an insurance policy nobody's read, and a business partnership held together by a conversation from 2018.
