IMPORTANT UPDATE: New Anti-Money Laundering Laws Are Coming

You might have heard in the news that Australia is updating its Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws. Starting 1 July 2026, these new regulations will apply to law firms across the country—including ours.

What does this mean for you?
If you are working with us on specific types of matters—such as buying or selling property, setting up companies or trusts, or managing funds—we will be legally required to take a few extra steps before we can begin our work.

Moving forward, you can expect us to:

Verify your identity: Even if you’ve been a trusted client of ours for years, the new laws require us to verify identity based on the specific matter, not just our relationship.

Ask a few more questions: For certain complex transactions, we may need to ask about business structures, beneficial ownership, or the source of funds.

Keep detailed records: This is a mandatory compliance step to align the legal sector with banks and financial institutions.

Please rest assured that these changes will not affect standard legal advice, litigation, or court-based matters. Your legal professional privilege and privacy remain completely protected under the law.

We are already upgrading our internal systems and integrating secure digital verification tools to make this onboarding process as seamless, quick, and secure as possible for you.
