Nine fabulous years, five conferences… and time to pass the baton! 🎤🎉
I officially retired from the NMC Board at today's AGM!

What a ride! From somehow pulling off the first and second-ever virtual NMC during a global pandemic, to taking the conference across the ditch to Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa (Wellington, New Zealand) in 2023, and the immensely awesome NMC2025 at the Sheraton on the Park.

A heartfelt thank you to Professor Laurence Boulle, who encouraged me to step up all those years ago. I am so glad he did!

A huge shout-out to my fellow Board members, past and present, and especially legendary NMC2025 Co-Chair, Deborah Lockhart, CEO, and the totally fabulous Dharug woman Melissa Stubbings; together, we formed the core Design Committee for what was an awesome NMC2025 event.

I think 9 years provided a pretty good innings to make a few new friends around the world too!
🇬🇧 🇨🇰 🇫🇷 🇪🇬 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇻🇳 🇳🇵 🇯🇵 🇵🇬 🇩🇪 🇧🇴 🇱🇰 🇿🇦 🇰🇷 🇸🇬 🇲🇾 🇻🇳 🇵🇭 🇹🇱 🇭🇰 🇹🇼 🇨🇮 🇲🇳 🇹🇷 🇧🇪 🇨🇳 🇼🇸 🇿🇦 🇵🇰 🇷🇼 🇵🇱 🇮🇩 🇩🇰 🇸🇪 🇳🇴 🇫🇮 🇮🇹
So, it is time for fresh ideas, new energy and the next generation to take the reins.

Of course, you have not seen the last of me - I will be at NMC2027 on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, and I look forward to seeing you there!

And what next for me? Retirement from NMC certainly does not mean putting my feet up. There is yet another exciting (even bigger) national project that I am involved in… but more on that later!

Looking for that unnamed mediator?

Sometimes the best recognition of a mediator is when their name is not mentioned at all.

In this radio interview, NT Minister Bill Yan MLA - Member for Namatjira on ABC Alice Springs speaks about the impact of work by professional mediators in community.

What you will not hear is the name of the mediator behind much of that work.

And strangely, I love that.

Because good community mediation is not about putting the mediator at the centre of the story. It is about building something that belongs to the community — grounded in local relationships, culture, language and people.

The mediator can eventually disappear into the background.

The community carries the work forward.

That is the point.

Big respect to everyone doing this work quietly, patiently and without needing their name on it.

Our thoughts are with my Nepali friends, colleagues and the wider Nepali community during this incredibly difficult time. 🇳🇵❤️

For those unable to contact family and loved ones back home, the uncertainty and distance must be especially hard.

Australia is fortunate to have such a strong Nepali community. So many work across health, aged care, disability support, community services and other industries, caring for and supporting others every day. At this time, I hope some of that care comes back to you.

I hope your loved ones are safe and that you are able to make contact soon. 🇳🇵❤️

Our thoughts are with everyone in Mparntwe Alice Springs — families, Elders, young people, frontline workers, and all those who call this place home.

Moments like these remind us how important it is to stay connected, to look out for one another, and to respond with care rather than division. Real healing comes from community, understanding, and a willingness to walk alongside each other, even when things feel heavy.

Sending strength and respect to people across Central Australia.
